FB&D, Carlos...That was one helluva ride, glad I was able to meet up with you all. And like you said,"those roads did not suck"! WOW! I ended up with 375 miles. Butt's a bit sore, but worth it. Came back 89 to 704 to 220. Passed by a huge buck (roadkill) and boy did it stink. Thanks again for the lunch, and the brownie bits. Be seeing you again real soon. Later... |

Twig, quite an excellent day indeed! 249 miles for me 'n D, one of the best days i've ever had on a bike, and that's saying a lot. :-) Carlos just left the 'Dome, headed back to the cabin. he 'n me are gonna hook up in the morning and i'll ride down outta the mountains with him and outbound for a bit, prolly pretty much right past your place. give a holler here or on my cell if you can/want to join up in the morning, and thx again for coming up today, we really enjoyed your company. :-) pix to come. FB&D :-):-) |

i'll move these to the adventure thread by and by, but in the meantime here's a brief look at today's shenanigans. (Nance, we couldn't fit Burke's Garden into the time we had, but we stopped and shot the sign specifically in your honor. :-)

Daddy just called to check on Carlos and the mountain grass. I told him all was well and that he just hated having to ride those mountain roads while up there to cut grass. It's very cool that FB&D live so close to Daddy's place. Thanks for posting the pictures of todays ride. I think we may need a Mountain Grass section in Adventures. Glad to see Twig made it out! |

Jerry - Thanks for the picture. I'm sure I'll need a garden run before the summer is over. That road is much nicer in the summer. |

What a fun weekend. Absolutely the best loop I have been on, only rivaled by the loop Rubberdown, Nance and I did of the Snake, Dragon and southern portion of the BRP. I want to thank FB&D, Twig and Nuts for making it so much fun. The ride home was as much fun as the rest of the weekend with Ferris following me down the mountain. We had the downhill to ourselves and 1313 my pegs match your's. I discovered I am not as smooth as Ferris when parts start draggin. In one right hander I was folding up the foot peg and just had to roll off the throttle and widen out my line. Lots of fun till I made it to the eastern part of North Carolina. HOT!!! I was melting and suffering from dehydration, pushing it to get home because our excellent lunch stop end up with us on Mexican time. Unfortunately my Camera has one weak spot. Its operator keeps leaving it on and killing the batteries. So I only took five shots and that was of a few locals. You see I kept getting messages on my phone but reception at the cabin is not that great. I stopped by a church to check my messages and ended up getting yelled at. The stud of the group decided that he did not like me stopping across the street so close to his ladies and decided to let me have a piece of his mind. I am glad that was all he gave me because looking at the size of his boys, he must have weighed at least a ton. I kept trying to explain that it was a B-U-E-L-L, not Bull, but he didn't want to hear it. Being the intelligent individual I am, I get off the bike and take pictures of this stud and his ladies.
You know that one pound of wire was all the protection I had from this one ton Bull. |

...our excellent lunch stop ended up with us on Mexican time.... yesterday afternoon, in a sleepy little Mexican restaurant in Eden, North Carolina: Ferris: "It's 4 o'clock already?!? Where did the effin' day go??!!??" Carlos: "Time flies when you're livin' large!" indeed it does. :-) it was a crispy 94 degrees when i rolled thru Mt. Airy on the return run, prolly even hotter down your way. i was pretty ragged by the time i got home. most excellent weekend all the way around, Denise, Carlos, Twig and NUTS, awesome riding and unabashed passion, adventure and camaraderie - thank you all. :-) FB |

FB - I think we all lucked out! I told Daddy that you really enjoyed messing around with his 55 Chevy. I told him when we had the "get the Chevy running" party, we'd have to invite you down. He wants a shelter here before he moves it back to NC. It ran when he parked it, unfortunately, life and his health took priority and the car has sat for many years. Don't know what fresh gas and a new battery would do for it, but might not be a bad place to start. |
