Well, I have no time to ride anymore so I'm selling my '03 XB9s. It is a beautiful bike that has been meticulously cared for. The only cosmetic issue is a small ding in the front wheel. It only has about 5000 miles on it. Now, here's my issue. Last year, it developed a knock coming from the engine. I took it to the Dealer and they said that they could not pinpoint it and wanted to tear it down to find the issue. I didn't want to put money into it since I was thinking about selling so that's where I'm at. The head mechanic even said that if it were his bike, he wouldn't be too concerned unless it got worse even telling me to ride it and not feel bad selling it with this condition. Anyway, I hate knowing that there is any problem so that's where I'm at. I did pull the primary cover off and re-torque that bolt that people says sometimes comes loose. I thought that was it in the early spring when I went for a ride but with the warmer weather, the problem is back. So I'd like anyone's opinion as to what to list this bike for. Thanks,

I forgot to say that it has the factory installed "race" kit with the K & N filter, chip, and dual exhaust.

I'll give yah $750 right now.......KIDDING. You are sure it "developed" a knock because from what I am learning/experiencing these bikes are noisy. I would put the price right at blue book value and be done with it. Good luck.

How many miles? And how fast do you want to sell it? If you don't need it gone yesterday, I'd go w/ Whitexc on Blue Book. If someone makes you an offer for a little less it's your option to accept/decline.

Sounds like a good place to start. Pretty unbelievable to get a knock with only 5000 miles!!

You should be able to get $4500, the most I think you'll get is $5,000. Now on ebay i've seen 03's go for $5800, but they had less than 1,000 miles on them. I would look at NADA and kelly blue book, then price it inbetween the two.

This is all assuming the knock is nothing.

Profstack just sold his rebuilt 03 and got a really good price on it
I don't remember the exact price, but I think it was nearly enough to purchase his new MotoGuzzi.

Ask him for better details.

Jamie "CorporateMonkey" just informed me of this thread. Here's my story:

I sold my '03 XB9S with 12k miles in June, via Seattle Craigslist, to the only really serious buyer. I asked $4,800 and quickly turned down $4,200 and $4,500 but settled on $4,600. Btw, the new Guzzi I bought was $7.2k out the door, a great price.

I was up front with details on the accident from last year that SHOULD have totaled the bike. Get this: new frame, swingarm, primary cover, handlebars, front/back wheels, airbox cover, various left side components, triple-tree. So it was almost perfect in condition. Tires were like new and the motor had been babied and bathed in synthetic oil. It also had an amazing custom seat.

I was very happy to get the $ and the buyer was equally happy to get a like-new bike.

Anyway, the used market is not kind to Buells and although you should get $5k for it, you might have to be very patient or else take the $4k and run. The "race" kit can actually detract from the perceived value of the bike. Do you have the original equipment for it?

Good luck! What bike, if any, do you plan to get?

I do not have the original equiptment. I originally was going to sell it and buy a cruiser for weekend trips with my girlfriend but, my truck (with 160,000 miles) lost compression and I broke down and bought a new jeep: 2006 Rubicon Unlimited leftover. So, Until I get a little more of that paid off, I'm just going to hold off on another bike. I'll putt around on my 77 yamaha 360 for a while!!
