I usually don't do this, but right now I need to vent a little bit.... Found a nice S3 on craigslist in Pittsburgh, call the guy up on Wednesday and tell him that I would like to buy the bike. He seemed happy, gave me his address and we decided for me to come Friday night between 6pm and 7pm to pick it up. After more than 250 miles on the turnpike I show up at his doorstep at 6:10p last night, only to learn that he was sorry but he had sold the bike already on Thursday. I first thought it was a joke, but the guy was flat out serious. Tried to tell me that he wanted to call me but didn't find my number. I was so shocked that I didn't even think of asking him for some gas and inconvenience money... My wife, who came with me to drive the car back and who is a psychiatrist told me that this was quite common behavior. People just don't care. However, I never had an experience like this in the Buell community and guess that I now have to be glad that previous deals came through. I once traveled all the way to Arkansas to buy a bike. One entire weekend in the car. I just imagine the guy at the time look at me a little retarded telling me: "Oh, good to see you and thanks for coming, but I sold it yesterday". I know a lot of people on the board here have traveled far to pick up a bike. I never read of a similar experience so I guess I can say that I must have met the only (Ex)Bueller who has no spine... Thanks for listening. I am still pissed after 8hrs and 500 Miles for nothing! By the way, did a fellow badwebber snatch it? It was a good looking silver 1998 S3T with 15K miles... |

Cornell- Man, that sucks. I'd have been pretty immensely pissed too. Amazing how completely inconsiderate some people are. If you've really got your heart set on a silver S3... http://www.badweatherbikers.com/buell/messages/21/ 266304.html?1174503899 |

Cornell, that blows.... I could not imagine if I had driven all the way from CO to OH to pickup my S2T from Eric and him saying he sold it.... I would have been pissed but lucky for me Eric is a standup guy and I think most Buell riders are. I like to think we are the elite when it comes to deals like that but guess everyone is not. I hope you find the bike you are looking for. If you find one in Colorado let me know. I can look at it for you and help you out anyway I can. Frank |

I can say I've never done that to anyone but I have sold things and I can't tell you how many times people have said they would purchase an item and never show !!! |

"I can say I've never done that to anyone but I have sold things and I can't tell you how many times people have said they would purchase an item and never show !!! " Ditto That. And, frankly, if someone asked me for gas/inconvenience money at my door, they'd be treated a to a swift beat-down. You NEVER ask someone for money for your inconvenience at their home.} |

That was very disappointing I'm sure, take heart in the strong probability that if this person's word wasn't worth anything on the deal that it's doubtful that it would have been any different on the bike itself. It's trite but things do tend to sort of unfold the way they mean't to a lot of the time, there's a better bike somewhere and the big guy or someone, hell Erik maybe, had your back. |

That flat out sucks bro. I possibly could have busted out my pocket size Chuck Norris to kick his ass. Never leave home without it. |

First rule of selling private party: first one at the door with cash takes it. Second rule; see first rule. Yes it sucks that you drove 250 miles, especially at the cost of gas. But I have to wonder why you didn't call the dude before you left? |

Money talks, money in hand talks loudest! It sucks especially from another Bueller, but as Teeps said you might have called before you left home. |

I had somewhat of the opposite. Made an offer on a bike. I was prepared to drive 2 hours that moment to get it, but the buyer felt obligated to let a previous offerer make good. It's easy for me to take at this point since I got to bring it home in the end. Just want to make the point that there are some who will go out of their way to do what they think is the right thing. Sucks that you got burned. Hopefully your next seller is more like mine than your latest. |

I hate selling things. I don't know the number of people who actually made appointments with specific times to come look at a car who never showed up and never called back. It's too bad he didn't didn't get in touch with you. Maybe he tried, maybe he didn't. At least you had some quality time with your wife in the car. |

I hate selling things. I don't know the number of people who actually made appointments with specific times to come look at a car who never showed up and never called back. This has been my experience most of the time. I recently unloaded a pile of stuff on Craigslist and it was the biggest pain in the ass - BUT - if I had a standing appointment with someone, I always told the next people who called that the item was still available, but that someone else has dibs at this point. And then I made sure to hold onto their number in case the deal fell through. I agree with Tramp, you should have called right before you left. Did this guy know you were traveling so far for the bike? |

Most people suck, plain and simple When it comes to buy/selling things I make every effort to be a stand up guy. I seem to be the only person under age 45 that does that. I have had mostly good experiences with deals involving more mature individuals, but with people in my own age bracket it has been nothing but work. What happened to being a stand up person? Did the baby boomers forget to mention it to their kids? |

What happened to being a stand up person? Did the baby boomers forget to mention it to their kids? Yep. Pretty much. Money talks and bullshit walks. However, you don't pull some lame ass excuse on some one like that. I sold my old race trailer earlier this summer. Two people wanted it. One showed up, and bought it. But I had the courtesy to call the other guy to tell him don't bother coming over. The lost phone number is a bullshit excuse. |

Baby boomers and stand-up don't really go hand-in-hand. People my own post-BB age (46)are too jerked off about getting their kids to soccer practice or using the kids as tools to get to the front of the line. Raising a nation who all seem to dwell at the very center of the universe. That being said, I disagree with corporatemonkey's statement that "Most people suck, plain and simple"... Most people, I find, are decent, thoughtful folks, who, given the chance, would like to do the right thing, they simply haven't been availed the tools to follow through with this desire |

I also find that most people who blather on with platitudes like "stand up", on the net, have no clue as to how to implement same out in the world. Seems a rule that, in m/c circles, the younger guys who crow about being "stand up" tend to run away from skirmishes or talk smack 'out of school'. They soon learn the meaning of the adage "stupidity will be painful". |

Tramp, I have been watching you on the BW for the last couple of days get really sideways with a lot of folks. I find myself siding with you on most conversation mainly due to the fact that through my Marine Corp experience most of the people I dealt with have no personal accountability. Good intentions, being nice or decent have nothing to do with personal accountability. I have walked the fine line of being jailed due to me either flat out getting in someones face over such soccer practice/front of the line antics or I have taken the liberty to back up my words through physical persuasion. Funny, someone mentioned they wondered what profession the person might have been in, but how relevant is that? I am an IT Program Manager for one the largest Aero Space companies in the world and I just told you I walk a fine line and simply due to my ability to persuade the cop who showed up that day. My point Tramp.... You need to write a book~ Get all this down on paper and out of your system. I think a lot of people will benefit from it, including you. Cheers for making my Sunday. Micah |

I'm 43 , let me put my teeth back in. It's easy to just watch out for # 1. I still think you can try to honor commitments and not hose or be hosed. |

I think, if you believe in God, or "a" God, or the son of man, etc., you'll try to do the best by your fellow man...and beast. If you believe, truly, in yourself, you have a commitment To do just that- to look out for your fellow man...and beast. |

Sh1t. I'm knee-deep in two books that you'd never guess at the subject matter of....nor should you give a sh1t. Boring, technical stuff. Thanks for the votes of confidence, and suggestion (Micah) toward cathartic penmanship....(and for exciting new ways to save badweb bandwidth) I'll stick with the boring books, thanks. |

CM- I believe you misread slowride's intent. Honesty is what it is, CM. If you find it irksome, you can always skip the post, right? Check it out: A thread I started 3 days ago has over 100 posts logged to it. (Message edited by tramp on August 03, 2008) |

why is this turning into a fight again? anyways, sorry about the bike...what a jerk...but I have learned through working with the public, some people just can't get over themselves...its irksome and annoying, but I'm more than sure you'll find another one that's even better but, I'm not knockin' ya for venting either...I've found this site a good place for that, haha |

Maybe if more people called others on their bs instead of saying, "oh well, that's just how it is," we could turn things around some. Question Authority, question everything. I called bs on some lady that had her kids holding a place in line the other day. Not that they were holding it, but how rude she was when she blasted past me in line to get to them. I told her that in society, we say excuse me when walking over someone in their personal space. Was very clear that it had nothing to do with the kids saving her place, they were waiting before I was there. She of course thought I was crazy and started to cuss at me and flip me off in front of her kids. I had to laugh and tell her that her boy had more sense than she did as he seemed to get it and tried to get her to shut up and calm down. I don't do it all the time or I'd go crazy, but sometimes you just have to (and should) call bs. |

She of course thought I was crazy and started to cuss at me and flip me off in front of her kids. Sadly this seems to be the standard response lately. I just hope the children are so embarrassed that they learn a valuable lesson NOT being taught by their parents. |
