Has this happened to anyone? I was driving around last night, when I looked at the speedometer it was at 0, but I was going 45mph. I watched it for a few minutes the speed would jump up to current then go back to zero again. I stopped at a red light, killed the bike and restarted. After that it worked fine the rest of the ride. Not sure what would cause that, but it sure was odd. | ||

The speedo seems a bit laggy sometimes... but I haven't experienced anything like what you are describing. Hmm.... but how do you know you were going 45mph without a speedo reading? (Message edited by Pariah on August 02, 2008) | ||

Sometimes the CAN (communication link between the ECM and IC) can get hosed. Try disconnecting the battery for 10 secs. This will cause the ECM and IC to reset and the CAN communications to resync. | ||

Mine went wacky a few times, not enough to take it in to the dealer yet. My speedo would scroll up to 170 than down to zero and back, in a few seconds. I pulled in the clutch and revved the engine and it seemed to make the issue go away, so I think it could be a connection issue. by the way, I checked my speed with my GPS. | ||

I had the samething happen to me. It happened while I was at a track day. The check engine light came on and I looked down and saw the speedo was reading zero. But I was running well over 100 mph. It has happened a few times this week when I was commuting to work. If it keeps it up I will take it in closer to winter. | ||

This happened to me. It happened when I started the engine too soon after turning the ignition on. I found that If I start the engine before the initialization of the ODIS (where the tach goes up and back and all the various lights come on and then go off) the speedo will sometimes drop off line and indicate 0. I am not a tech or anything, this is just what I observed. Since I have been careful to let the initialization cycle run before turning the engine on, I have not had any other problems with it. Guys this will happen to me sporadically, and the HD guys have witnessed this but they can't get the ok to fix the bike. What freakin gives, the hotter the bikes the more it happens, and my local police hate sportbikes, and this gets me very uneasy in town. Warranty or no warranty patience is wearing thin. Boudrx | ||

On track days if you remove the fuse for the Brake / Horn circuit, your speedo will not work since the speed sensor gets its power from that fuse. It will also give a check engine light. |
