I just did a track day, under the lights, at Nashville Superspeedway last night. Ended up dicing with the owner of my local dealer, Tom Bumpus. I was on my Gixxer 600, and he was on the 1125R. Every time we got straight up and down, and he whacked the throttle open, he'd drop me like a bad habit. He didn't seem to be having any "fueling" issues. I was on my 600, which is running a race suspension, Power Commander, and the same Pirelli Corsa III tires. Tom was on a bone stock, off the showroom floor 1125R "demo" bike. I couldn't shake him. I could pass him in the turns if I set him up just right, but the 1125 motor is a beast. He'd just trot past me like I wasn't moving once the track went reasonably straight. It was also near 100 degrees when we hit the track. I didn't notice him having any overheating issues, and he wasn't sweating any worse than the rest of us (all dressed head to toe in leathers). Oooooh I want one!!! Just need the $$$$$. |

Nashvegas huh? Man that track is fun. Passed many unsuspecting fools on the sweeper when you come off the tri-oval headed back into the 1st part of the infield course. Transitions sucked but the track is hella fun and the price is usually decent. How the riding at night? I have raced there a bunch and did a few trackdays but never anything at night. I bet it was great. I am planning on putting my 1125R on the track for the 1st time at Barber in September so I will get a chance to see for myself how it does in a more controlled environment. |

That big sweeper at Nashville is less daunting than it looks. I roll out of the throttle coming down off the banking, downshift at the hashes, and get back into the gas through that turn. Can pass a lot of people in that little area if you come in at the right angle. You can also get a bunch of folks coming into the second hairpin (turn 3) by setting up about mid track versus swinging out wide left. That in effect takes the line away from the person on the outside. You can't carry as much speed, and it will hurt your lap times, but if you've got a corner parker, you can get around them there. Just have to plant that right knee hard and cut it tight. Bunch of people go down there because they get spooked when they slip on the pavement seem "goo". You need to do the STT date at Barber in October. I'll be there on the 25th and 26th. 1125X would be the ultimate bike for me. God, I hope they make it. But I'm riding my 2006 Ulysses till they do. |
