Well I went down my my 11r back on June 5th due to an 80yr old pulling out of a driveway blindly leaving me 15ft to stop and hit the side of his dodge pickup. I made it out with just some bruises b/c i impacted at a very low speed and almost avoided it completely. I'm at 0 fault so no payments for me just loosing out on my ridding season which is making me very impatient. My dilemma is my bike is completely fixed sitting at the dealer minus the stupid windscreen which has been on back order since it was ordered back in mid June and I'm in desperate need of a windscreen don't care on the color. All the ebay ones are just a dealer who can order me one which puts me back at square one. My dealer told me its ok if I can find one to give to them if i can find one faster they would be happy to go with it. The Crapy thing is that mine wasn't even damaged in the crash just a scratch on it but insurance will not let them use it. Any help with locating a windscreen that I can buy would make me a very happy bueller and i miss my baby its been driving me nuts! Here are some low quality cellphone pics of the damage while i was waiting for the LEO

Hi Bjorn, It would be very hokey and hopefully very temporary, but how about starting with a flat piece of plexiglass, cut it to the size of the fairing, drill some holes and call it good until the one you've ordered comes in? With a little finagling you could probably put a nice curvature in it as well making it look halfway decent. Asbjorn |

Well its not really up to me its the Insurance company who wont let my bike leave without a new OEM windscreen, Other wise i would use my original one since it perfectly fine just has a scratch on it. Appreciate the advice tho |

Just borrow one from another 11 owner then swap out for your scratched one once you leave the dealer. There should be other 11 owners in your area right? |

That's a good idea but I'm not allowed to claim my old parts till i wait 30days and if insurance doesn't take them i can claim them back. |

That sucks. I had a 73 y/o run red light in front of my XR650L in Oct. Doc just said I can start riding again! looking at getting a 25r. anyway - saw two hits on ebay via a quick google search.. i asked this seller if they have this in stock - if they respond i'll let you know. Looks about 58.00 w shipping: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vi ewItem&item=320280411502 and this one: ...nevermind - it's gone (blue anyway). looks like these may be hard to find - lol. i'd throw 60$ at this and try to get the first one! hth! GL! rob |

Well just got off the phone with the purchasing guy at my dealer, told me estimated date for the screen would be 8/31 If i borrowed somebodies the dealer would assume i bought it and aren't going to just hand me the one they get unless i pay but its cheap so i guess i could fork the 50 bucks if i had to |

"but insurance will not let them use it." I'd give your insurance agent a call, explain the issue and get a waiver. They work for you, not the other way around. It cannot be that tough to get it done. Just stick to your guns. |

"the Insurance company who wont let my bike leave" How is that even possible? It is your motorcycle, yes? I'd go pick the darn thing up and take it home. |

it is his bike but the parts are now the ins. company's. They just "bought them" to replace them. we get this a lot in the collision business |

I spoke to the dealer where mine is in the shop for being wrecked, and they said as soon as they start work on my bike i can buy my scratched plastics back, including the windsheild but it is scratched, so i will give it to you for the shiping cost. at least it will get you back on the road |

"it is his bike but the parts are now the ins. company's." Solution seems simple enough. Talk to the insurance agent and inform him/her that the existing windscreen is undamaged and needs no replacement and that you are willing to sign of on that fact. Good grief! Are rational logical people really in such short supply these days? I think not, but hey, I'm an optimist. |

Who is the customer and who is the vendor? Remind the vendor if needed. Also remind him that there are other vendors competing for your business. |

Hit the insurance company up for a rental bike. You are entitled to replacement transportation. When faced with a huge rental bill, bet they back off and let you use your old screen until new one arrives. Also, as leverage, complain about sore neck and you may need medical attention. That really makes them bend over backward to make you happy. (I have been in the insurance business 28 years, I have learned what buttons to push). |

How is that even possible? It is your motorcycle, yes? I'd go pick the darn thing up and take it home. And you'd be in one heck of a shock when the insurance company doesn't pay for the repairs then because they weren't done like they asked. Who is the customer and who is the vendor? If the insurance company is paying the bill, doesn't that technically make them the customer. The dealership is just doing what they are told, so they get paid. If the insurance company weren't paying for it, they wouldn't care what condition it is in when you take possession, but since it's on their bill, the bike has to be perfect, so it can't fall back on them that "you didn't have it fixed right" if something were to go wrong. That being said, I would also call the insurance company and explain the situation, and tell the the old one is not damaged. It may work! |

Those are your parts, not the insurance companies'. The insurance company owes you the bike owner, their only options are to repair, replace or indemnify you for your loss. The repair shop has nothing to do with whose parts they are or whether you are paying or the insurance company. I bet the insurance company is either State Fraud, Farmhand or Nostate. Sounds like how they treat claimants. |

"I bet the insurance company is either State Fraud, Farmhand or Nostate. Sounds like how they treat claimants." Its Travelers insurance, i have dairy land but its going though the other persons. Thanks for the advice guys, on Monday im going to call the insurance and see what i can get done or if they can get me a rental bike and see if that gets them to do something. Also going to call around some more and see if i can find a windscreen somewhere. and Deexn1125r let me know if you get a hold of your stock screen |

But i did locate a stock screen at Bumpus HD in Memphis if anyone else is looking for one now its time to get my bike home and slap on my D&D so those 80yrs can hear me next time. Thank you all for your suggestions and windscreen offers! (Message edited by bueller_bjorn on August 04, 2008) |
