There is a different fuel map available for the 99 models. It addresses those low RPM hunts. Make sure it is installed before you take delivery. Or, do yourself a favor, and get the race ECM. As far as exhaust goes, if you're looking for quiet, the stock can is the way to go. All the aftermarket ones make power and noise. |

ELFLY SPEAKING. . . . . All persons coming to The Bonneville Salt Flats need to go over to their local Costco (www.costco.com) and pick up the package of TWO BLUE GROUND TARPS. Rules require that all vehicles be parked on tarps and that caution be taken to prevent any fluids from getting on the Salt. If you can do this, drop an e-mail to TEAM ELVES LOGISITCS with the subject "Your name - I'll bring two tarps" in the subject. Court |

Josh: Already got a willing passenger, hence #3, got her all used to an adjustable backrest, and boards, so I don't want to make her move down the comfort scale if I don't have to. "T" bars? Touring maybe? As far as a sporty with buckhorns, been there, hated that. The Sabre I'm on now has bars with similar width and angles as the Buell, but the reach is such that I'm JUST slightly ahead of bolt upright. I'm actually sourcing taller bars for it as we speak. If the wind protection is adiquate, it's quite comfy for me to be straight up. Sounds like a race kit is the thing to throw at it. How hard are they to user remap? I've got access to a dyno jet and can do Powercommanders with ease, is the software/cable available for the race ecm? Anyone got a stock S3T dyno chart I can look at to compare to what I'm running now so I know what I'm dealing with? Hootowl: Excelent, that'll let me stage the upgrade, get the new map for now, then race ecm when I've got more free cash. |

From CNN: Officials said no live weapons would be used in the exercise, but they would not say whether missiles would be available in the event of an actual attack. Someone help me here. As a person who lives in New York City, runs in Central Park every morning, drives through the longest tunnel in American and across the longest suspension bridge, watched as they positioned >200 satellite trucks across from "Ground Zero" this morning, waved at the Coast Guard cruisers cruising as the combat cover fighters circled overhead.....MAY I PLEASE HAVE LIVE MISSILES IF WE ARE ATTACKED? Why, rather than feel comfort, am I reminded of Barney Fife when I read something like this? Court |

Court, It's the same as the guys in cammo patroling the airports after the attacks. Nice side arms and spiffy M-16's, no ammo though. Bet that felt good. |

Buddy of mine in the Guard said he felt better not having ammo during the Olympics since he didn't have rules of engagement. If a cop pulls his gun he is shooting to kill, what does a guardsman do with a purse snatcher when he has an M16 on his shoulder and live ammo? Not sure which I prefer but there are definitely two sides to that coin, would prefer to have live missles available in case of attack, but then maybe they are just trying to keep a little to themselves. We don't really need to know everything - someones always willing to say too much, which I'm probably doing right now -Mike |

That's insane. Don't send out troops if they're not going to be friggin' properly equipped. Maybe lifesize cardboard guardsmen would be a better alternative. It'd serve about the same purpose. |

Predius, The stock ECM with the new map will stop your low speed stuttering, but to make it run right, especially with that aftermarket muffler, you NEED the race ECM. Forget about the power commander. The race ECM is cheaper ($180 or so) and it is all you need. Even if you go all out with big bore kits and head work, the race ECM will keep up. |

Predius, I should tell you that I have a PCIII, and have taken it off. My bike runs a lot better with just the race ECM. |

Blake and Big block regarding your posts your posts on Sept 8 concerning engine coating Yes internal engine coating, with thermal & lubricating coatings is a valid concept and the results are for real. In an independent test Briggs & Stratton performed dyno tests to evaluate the effect of various oil viscosities & quanities in their engines. For the last series of tests they installed a piston with its dome only coated with a thermal barrier & a cylinder head with the combustion chamber also thermal barrier coated. The results were. UNCOATED COATED Average horsepower 5.86 6.54 Cylinder head temp 454f 391f Oil temperature 206f 168f CONCLUSIONS Horsepower 10.40% increase Cyl head temp 14.88% decrease Oil temp 18.45% decrease This with only the dome & chamber coated. Mazda was having some problems with piston scuffing on some of the engines in their rally cars. The piston skirts only were coated with a solid film lubricating coating and the scuffing was cured and there was a 7hp increase in power. Our small block Chevy circle track engines runninf in a 355 cuin 2 barrel restricted class yused to put out just under 500hp. After complete coating and careful tuning they are now putting out an additional 67hp. It is making this additional power with lower water & oil temperatures, valve springs now last a full season, turning 8100rpm, instead of being replaced twice a year & the driver enjoys the much lower in car temperatures. Firemanjim That is one sweeeet looking Buell. I marvel at the fact that a Buell looks so good no matter what guise it is in. Keep up the good work and may the power be with you. |

I have been looking at the dyno charts, trying to determine what benefits the race kit pipe and muffler has, over the stock pipe with a good slip on such as a V&H, for my 2000 M2. I like the looks and cost of the stock header and V&H muffler much better. Is the benefit in mid-range or high rpm. If any one knows of a dyno chart showing this comparison , please let me know where it is. |

Can anyone tell me what the symptoms of a bad engine temp sensor for a carbed Buell are? Can anyone tell me if the Speed Channel covers the Salt Flats? Thanks and Thanks |

Capt, If you can make it to Kilgore, TX. You can drive my truck to Bonneville. It has great brakes. Fog, As far as I know, the temperature sensor on the carbed bikes, incorporated since '00+1/2 models, acts only in the role of overtemp protection. When overtemperature occurs as indicated by the sensor, the ignition module goes into an every other spark mode until the temperature falls below the danger level. So a bad sensor would either fail to instigate that mode or would instigate it prematurely. |

Well Guys (and Gals) it's been a hell of a ride. (Thanks Court for all your help along the way) I'm looking to bow out of Buell land gracefully. I was tempted by the Far East again and purchased a Suzuki V-Strom (Hey I stayed with the V-twin!). On the V-Strom site it's dejavue all over again. People complaining about fuel mapping, surging, When is the Power Commander coming out?.... ahhh. I thought I would offer the X1 to the enthusiasts before I try the civilian world. Is there anyone out there that would like to buy a COLLECTABLE, TUBED FRAME 99 X1? With a mere 16,000 miles, Race ECM, SuperTrapp, Penske Shock, New rear rubber, 3 different seats, I was desperately looking for long range comfort! UH OH, I better wrap this up before Blake moves this post to For Sale Section. Does anyone go there? Send me an email and I'll bore you with all the gritty details about the bike. Dana out. |

re 'Missiles' - always struck me as a misnomer that one - I would much prefer they call them 'hittiles' - I mean they dont make them with the intention that they 'miss' do they? Or do they....bit like guns with no ammo....... |

Dana, If you still have the original shock, put it back on and donate the Penske to the BadWeB/Team Elves Roadracing effort! |

Predius, Check out my S3 Files and the X1 Files (link seems to be down at the moment) For your questions: 1. Not that I know of 2. The D&D pipe is pretty nice. I currently use the Buell/Supertrapp Internal Disc Muffler. The sound/power is tuneable via the disks, and the mounting system is very good. 3. Floorboards? Ok as long as she's comfortable, eh? Passenger Backrest can be had with the Corbin Gunfighter & Lady Seat. Just make sure you try it and are comfortable in this seat before you buy it. Or you could try a Buddy Belt. 4. Zero Gravity is good, Rifle Makes another style, but it looks goofy, makes the bike look like a BMW. 5. It might not just be the ECM causing the problem. It could be intake leaks at the manifold seals, through the injector o-rings or the stock airbox itself. Just putting the Race ECM won't fix anything if you have a leak somewhere. Fix that stuff first. If you are comfortable playing with the Power Commanders that might be the way to go, otherwise go with the Race ECM, which is not programmable by the user. 6. How much do you and your passenger weigh? if it is more than 330 pounds, you will be overloading the bike. If you do get this bike, consider switching to the new style of rear engine isolator and the newer spec rear shock, so you can safely carry more weight. Make sure you get the service and parts manual, and read everything you can in the Knowledge Vaults here and in the two sites I mentioned above. Finally, a sense of humor and incredible patience and understanding will go a long way to improving your upcoming ownership experience. |

Capt'n wrote: "7. Differential shot. Positraction locked up most of the time. A tight corner will sometimes break it loose, evidenced by a loud ‘clunk’ and a little rear-end hop to the outside of the corner. " That sure sounds like a Detroit Locker in there. Worth a bit more than $200 if it is. Okay, back to side mode. |

hello guys, i am a guardsmen, after 9/11 last year, i immediatley volunteered for overseas duty. they said no, we were needed for homeland defence. i did a five month stint doing swing shift with no days off guarding a nuclear power plant. they gave us ammo for our 16s and we patroled the whole area around the powerplant non stop. caught some people doing dumb shit, like poaching, taking pictures, walking on the property, and one guy even cut trees down on top of the powerlines, he was nuts. we also assisted the cops in there duties as well. it is a shame the guard gets a bad rap, the news makes it sound like we are a bunch of yuppies playing soldiers. most of us volunteer for that duty, most are pretty far from home, and we get no days off. I am just thankful to be around and to be safe. however, myself and many others like me will drop everything we are doing to defend the nation. with or without ammo. |
