is EPA the reason you must have a race licence in order to buy special parts for your bike that no other company offers. just would like to be able to get performance parts i would like to have. Thanks for any info on this question

I'm betting that the REAMING that Powercommander got last year changed the way that ALL the manufacturers look differently at how they sold "race only" stuff.

RRW article on the lawsuit:

http://www.roadracingworld.com/news/article/?artic le=31021

Not saying that the lawsuit is why they no longer sell race stuff to non-racers, but I'm betting that if Powercommander modules were used on the street and Powercommander lost in court, it would only be a matter of time before the same lawsuit happened to others.

Not saying this is a good thing but, can you really blame them for no longer selling them?

Also now, dealers doing installation of non-DOT and non-EPA stuff are looking at $10,000 fines (something like that)

i understand that. I had forgot about powercommader getting into a law suit. u r wright i don't blame for being shay about seeling to none race licenced people. I know our dealership won't do a state inspection on bike if dosen't have baffles in the exhaust system. I think it's a $10,000.00 dollar fine and lose of state inspection licence.

Its an EPA thing. Can't have too much pollution, but I think my bike pollutes more from the fuel tank vent hose than the exhaust pipe. If I could trap all the fuel vapor from the vent and use it I could probably ride another 40 miles.

i think thats a bunch of crap.

how does the aftermarket get away with modding the crap out of passenger vehicles and diesel trucks??

my diesel truck has a crapload of aftermarket chips, turbo and injectors to make it put down over 500hp and 1200ft/lb of torque on a dyno.

they get away with making this stuff by licensing it as off road only or not for use on pollution controlled vehicles or CA. then its on YOU if you put it on your licensed vehicle.. not the company making it!

we need to get ecmspy for ddfi3 ASAP!!!

My Yamaha dealer had a problem with jetting my WR450 because of the fines they could get. The EPA really has some of these dealer scarred with all the fines for modifying emissions. I ended up jetting myself but that's a little harder with fuel injection.

Give it some time, I'm sure some things are in the works right now. As you know when you did the mods on your truck it takes the aftermarket world a little time to play catch up with new products.

It is going to get worse and the fall out from what they are doing in California will eventually reach other parts of the country. Not only was there the power commander law suit but they also have gone after dealers and went through their records. Any work involving installing off-road only equipment on motorcycles was fined.

Amen bro...
Gunter, if you're reading this, what can we do to help the effort of making ECMSpy or some derivative compatible with the 1125R?

There are no efforts, at least none I would know of.

Pizzaboy/Tony,

There you go, using LOGIC in your thinking!

The situation reminds me of the joke about the gun control advocate talking to a gun owner and she asks the owner the reasons WHY he should own something that has the capability to kill and maim... and thinking for a minute, he tells her that she has all the equipment to be a hooker but it's how the equipment gets used that should be regulated, NOT the equipment itself

(OK, I can't tell a good joke but you get the idea)

Yet, companies like Powercommander still are sued and lose in court because of HOW their customers use the equipment.

It's the world we live in.

Seems like a pretty simple solution guys and its called a "waiver". All racing venues use some sort of it to protect themselves from liability if something unfortunate happens while using their facilities, equipment, etc. BMC and others, I would think, merely has you sign a waiver that you will not use their parts/equipment on the road. Then it SHOULD all be on you..........but our government is STILL trying to be in our everyday lives more then we like. When they cannot do anything to us or its physically too hard they go after the companys. Its a shame but its there. And our freedoms erode. Maybe thats the only way I am a real outlaw. People on BadWeb and other internet venues WILL eventually find solutions for much of what we want WITHOUT government intervention. Gotta love that, and once again a thanks to all who work everyday trying to get us those things. Sorry about the rant. Bob

There are currently no efforts to support 2008 models with ecmspy. If you find us a programmer who will do that, I will give him all support I could.

Gunter

The EPA [Federal government] and CARB [CA] have limited ability to reach out and "touch" the end-user. They can and do reach out and "touch" the OEM's. That is the very nature of a regulatory regime.

You wouldn't want it any other way with, say, the FDA; no different with this, even if it's your ox getting gored. Get over it. The regs are legitimate and necessary. And better than an outright ban on mfg. or selling ANY modification device or technology.

It is great to have a part number and be able to see it, but not be able to have it. Just have to have a race license. I guess I know what my next project is: "get a race license". I really hate rules
