I had alot to ask about to a tech and finally got to talk with one on the phone and not a harley operator .First off I asked him about about the cr gearing which is a rear pulley change and a belt.he said that a speedo fix would not be available through dealers it would have to be done with a speed healer of some sort.He also said the reason for the lowering gearing on the cr is once again the epa is crackin down on emmissions and a lower geared bike also requires less gas to meet there criteria its also a city bike category. the epa has different categories for different style bikes which determine the pollution allowed. They other than that he said they probably wouldnt of changed the gearing.way to go government.no flashes from a cr can be intermixed with a 1125r the computer will not take it.even if they try to trick it with another vin from another cr bike when they try it wont work he said. But thats good news he said cause our A/F values programmed is richer values than a cr.he said its a more potent tune.no gearing as a crutch so if you gear a more potent/richer tune it would be even faster he said.i also asked about the soliniod.he said thats what people are doing just disconnecting the cable and zip tieing the linkage.which is what i have done he said you shouldnt see any code but told me he can tell me to do that and laughed.he also told me that there is a definite plan for a rr coming dont know when he said but he said it could have all the race goodies on it.but he cant say and laughed again.he warned me to get my 5th gear fixed .said my bike had the latest tune available and said my bike was the 3rd bike to recieved the newest flash and said i was good to go .and last off i aske him about my FRONT an REAR o2 compensation which is 95 front and 105 rear he said that is normal. cause the rear cylinder runs hotter and needs more gas to cool it down.Thats all the info I got . |

So does that mean that the R is going to outdated here soon? Is there a new tune in the works to help with the fueling on our bikes? |

Since I am a magazine writer/editor by trade and had trouble reading this, I have translated it in to the following comprehendible format: I have been looking for the answers to some intriguing questions for some time now, and was finally able to speak to a Buell tech over the phone. First of all, I asked him about the 1125CR gearing, which consists of a rear pulley change and a new belt. He told me that a speedo fix (for those looking to install the CR gearing on the 1125R) would not be available through dealers and that it would have to be done with a speed healer of some sort. He also mentioned the reason for the lowering gearing on the CR is due to the EPA crack down on emissions and that a lower geared bike requires less fuel to meet their criteria. The 1125CR, according to this tech, is in the City Bike category (the EPA has different categories for different style bikes that determines the allowable pollution), which has different emission requirements than the class that the 1125R is in. He also told me that Buell probably wouldn’t have changed the CR’s gearing if it weren’t for these classifications. Way to go government! I also found out that ECM flashes from a CR are NOT compatible with the 1125R. You won’t even be able to try to trick it with a VIN from a CR. You wouldn’t want to do this anyway because, according to him, the 1125R A/F values are programmed richer than a CR. He said the 1125R has a more potent tune, and that bike doesn’t use gearing as a crutch. The good news for us 1125R owners is that if you gear a more potent/richer tune it would be even faster. I also asked about the solenoid mod that involves disconnecting the cable and zip tying it to the linkage. He told me that you shouldn’t see any codes, but also told me he can’t tell me to do that and laughed. While we were on the phone, he warned me to get my 5th gear fixed. He said that my bike was the 3rd bike to receive the newest flash and that I was good to go. Lastly, I asked him about my FRONT and REAR O2 compensation, which is 95 front and 105 rear. He told me that is normal because the rear cylinder runs hotter and needs more gas to cool it down. I’ll leave you with one last interesting bit: he also told me that there is a definite plan for a RR coming don’t know when he said but he said it could have all the race goodies on it, but he wasn’t supposed to say and laughed again. That is all the info I have… Good info in there... --Sean (Message edited by thespive on July 29, 2008) |

Was this a tech at a dealership or a tech that worked for Buell? |

I dunno,,, I'm not buying the emissions reasoning. I think it has more to do with drivability on a naked bike vs a superbike. |

good info! ..and HA to whoever said that disconnecting the cable and ziptieing the solenoid would eventually throw a code! and i have to say... i drive in 5th gear quite a bit less lately until i do the recall this winter. |

This was a buell tech I spoke with,He also told me the reason for the last updated flash was because the fuel pump cycling and fan cycling was killing the battery.I then asked him if the tune was a little different ?He said no. Im kind of glad I spoke with this tech so that way I can put some of the rumors and iss\sues on this site to rest. For example the 4000rpm learn in 3rd gear ride for 5 minutes .he laughed Talk to techs and get the real answers. And for the R outdated soon?If it happens it happens.Every year something better comes out.Doesnt mean you have to buy it.Im completely happy with my R.2800 miles and shes getting real smooth. And I will check out on the pricing on the gear/belt today.I will post later my findings |

>>>>Talk to techs and get the real answers. Come to the Internet and discuss things they "told" you about future product and you place folks at grave risk. Bear in mind this is not HD or Honda. All the "Buell Techs" in the world can ride in my Ford pickup at the same time. Someone has been placed at risk. Three folks have lost their jobs over things said on Badweb. You can now understand why the folks at Buell MUST be very hush mouthed. By the way. . . they often revel in dispatching wildly inaccurate rumors and timing the "time to net" gap. By the way Andrew that is friendly advise, not a scolding. I've been party to the fallout more times that I want to recall and simply want to have all the cards favoring us for continuing to enjoy a great relationship, odd in today's litigious society, with the factory. It's sometime tough on the techs. As you know they are just as enthusiastic and pumped up over the bikes and riding that they love to talk to owners. Enthusiasm, in the world of Buell, is contagious. |

So, let me get this straight, the reflash does absolutely nothing to the map and the 4k-5k 3rd gear run doesn't work? So, did the few of us that got this to work magically will the bike to run better and get better mileage, inquiring minds want to know. If this is so, anyone want to pay me huge sums of money to do some mumbo jumbo magic and make their bike run like a dream? Zack, you could probably make a mint... |

Well, there are a few things right in what your tech posted, but I can guarantee you shouldn't take the whole story to the bank!!! I don't know where some of this information comes from! I'll just point out a couple major flaws in the story, you can choose to believe me or him, but there are few who would really know more than me. There is no government reason for the deeper gearing; it was done to fit the riding profile/image of the bike. There also is absolutely no difference in the state of tune, although the CR will accelerate faster due to the gearing. |

Anonymous is brilliant .Sorry but you are WRONG.A geared car, bike or whatever that is geared lower will require less gas to make it move.Thats why you also see more vehicle on the market with more gears like 5 and 6 speeds in automatics even.once again anonymous ur well hate to say it retarded. I hope my grammer was a little better this time .Thespive If you dont think so maybe you can fix it for me while I ride my bike to the track.keyboard chump!! I will only post quality info.Unlike some. Not guess and make rumors. Happy riding all true riders. 3000mi after today at the track.129 today and Running smoother |

Anony's word is Bank! Period. I personally vouch for that. Dear "Adoogie", Your personal attacks and insults are unwelcome here. Please edit your post accordingly. "A geared car, bike or whatever that is geared lower will require less gas to make it move." Baloney. Higher engine speed at cruise will typically use more fuel due to increased driveline parasitic losses. |

Hi gang, I try not to take any of this stuff personal! It seems to me that we're all in this together..... So, at the end of the day, with all the conjecture, speculation, and general thoughts swirling around, will any current re-flash take care of the dead batteries and stumbling below 4000 rpm??? I'm still not clear if anyone is coming up with a SOLID and COMPLETE fix to these real issues. I do love my bike, but, some of these problems are getting really old, and I haven't had mine half as long as many others on this site! Heck, even I'm getting tired of listening to myself bitch about it at work! Imagine how my co-workers feel. I've probably scared the crud out of them from ever buying a Buell! I'm just wondering what it will take to get these problems under control? It reminds me of a friend's Triumph Daytona from a few years ago. It was a really nice bike, but, he couldn't get the fuel injection to straighten out no matter what he did, or, who he took it to. He brought the bike to some of the finest tuners in the northwest over a period of about three years, and then finally gave up and sold the bike. I genuinely hope it doesn't come down to that in my case! Doesn't Buell listen and respond to customer input??? Stay safe, Tracy |

Thanks Anony and Blake. Some folks just need to believe what the other guy on the phone told them. Wouldn't it be funny if the tech 'on the phone' was Erik having some fun with some shmuck who was sucking up everything he was being told? JJ |

Wouldn't it be funny if the tech 'on the phone' was Erik having some fun with some shmuck who was sucking up everything he was being told? No... that would be stupid and irresponsible. If a customer is asking the CEO: "Why does my bike run funny and what can Buell do to fix it?" And the answer is BS, or disinformation or a joke...I'm sure that's going to be well received by the folks who paid $ to buy the product. } |

This is grossly inappropriate and incorrect. First off, personal attacks, as Blake said, aren't welcome here (I can't claim total innocence, but I don't think I've ever flat out called someone retarded). Second, attacks to an Anony are surely not welcome either... you may disagree with them, but many of us on this board appreciate the fact 'someone' from the Buell hierarchy takes the time and effort to post and answer questions for us mere mortals. Third, if higher gearing leads to using less gas, then why does anyone care about overdrive transmissions? Why doesn't everyone leave their car or bike in 2nd gear when on the highway? Why is that when I went from 2.51 gears to 4.10 gears in my Monte Carlo, my gas mileage was nearly halved? More gears are added to transmissions typically to get a deeper overdrive for lower rpm at cruise. My guess is that an 1125CR will likely get a few MPG less than an 1125R. |

Just an honest question 'cause I haven't been on these boards long enough to know... Are "Anonymous" posters generally accepted to be a higher-up at BMC? Possibly even Erik himself? (SUPER cool if that IS the case) |

Since they read our posts, Erik PLEASE! A 800cc to ~920cc Liquid cooled Buell for 2010 A lower displacement 1125CR with MUCH smaller pods (naked is good, but help the pod haters out next round). I'd even settle for 1/2 engine a 600cc version "Fireblast" By rough estimates could make 162HP and 94 ft/lbs if bored out to 1200cc and given a race exhaust. Confirm/Deny? "Thats why you also see more vehicle on the market with more gears like 5 and 6 speeds in automatics even" more gears in the tranny make up for the TALLER final gear ratio....they are doing this so the vehicles will be at lower RPMs while cruising down the freeways and getting higher MPGs |

>>>Are "Anonymous" posters generally accepted to be a higher-up at BMC? Possibly even Erik himself? (SUPER cool if that IS the case) No. You CAN believe that the person posting anonymously has good reason, and has been vetted, to do so. I also will add that I have, while working at Buell and talking to owners on the telephone, have told folks one thing, gone to the Internet and read a 180o inaccurate account of what was said 10 minutes earlier. The Buell Tech who "talked" has, at the request of the nice folks who sent me the "loose ships sink ships, the guy deserves to be fired" has been counseled. |
