To get to the moped in the left turn lane...But she didn't make it. Lets add to the list of all the things to look out for when riding. My dad never thought to look out for people literally running out in front of him. This lady ran in front of him today and he hit her going about 40mph with his 3 month old sportster today. Both of them are ok, he broke her fall. She said that she never even saw him. They carpooled to the hospital in the same ambulance and were out in a couple of hours. Her friend was in the left turn lane and waved to her to cross the road and she just went. I can't even imagine how my dad felt seeing a woman fly up through his windshield and into him. He said that he just had enough time to lock up the rear tire and hit the front brake. The bikes all screwed up, but everyone is ok so far. |

Glad your Dad is OK. Sorry to hear about the bike. Too bad that idiot wasn't given a Darwin Award. If she did the same thing in a car, your Dad would probably have been dead. Edited by author to appease those sensitive to words. (Message edited by chameleon on July 28, 2008) |

I understand there are stupid women. There are also stupid men & stupid kids. And yes, I like a good blonde joke every now & then too. But do some of the folks on here REALLY need to be so blatantly sexist? Michael (Chevy) glad to hear your dad is OK. |

Thanks to everyone! Just look out for everything when riding, even people. Last night it was almost my turn. A bicycle almost got it. It was midnight and I was on my way home from work on my 25R. I was behind a truck and their was a bicycle that was going the same direction as us in the other lane going against traffic. The truck in front of me turned right down a side street and the bike went across right in front of me on the same street. No light, no reflectors, and dark cloths, great combo. If I were 1 second longer before hitting the brakes I would have had a trip to the emergency room last night. Beware of everything! Oh, and it was a guy on the bike. I've also seen stupid people of all kinds. Nobody's perfect. |

Intellectually speaking, I could wipe up the floor in this room but out of respect for the other 99% of the guys in the forum, I won't. For the 1% of you, I think there are chat rooms in other forums for those who haven't had a date in a while. If this message still isn't clear, be very cautious of the generalized "chick" talk. Most important, Chevy, glad to know you AND THE CHICK are ok. (Message edited by 1125chick on July 25, 2008) |

I was waiting for somebody to chime in with that message. While I'm REASONABLY sure (and hopeful!) the terminology was used in anger, it deserved the (kind) wrath you imparted! Guys: Let's be careful and respectful out there!! |

While I never saw Funktron's self declared sexist joke I would guess that neither did 1125chick. That leaves one name calling post and my rather whimsical post. It appears I got the reaction from Chevy I had wanted. To lighten his mood and perhaps bring a snicker or two to his injured father. I guess that now makes me one of the dateless, intellectually inferior 1%. Well, at least there's a plus. As a 1%'er I get a 3 piece patch, loud pipes and a "show us your ____" sign good for all beer and leather clad rallies. |

All I can say is I'm sorry. Never intended CHICK to be a negative sweeping generalization of all women. Sorry again. |

I showed this to my wife and she laughed. Apparently she didn't get the memo about the term "chick" being negative and/or something to be offended by. Can us males be offended by "Dude" or "guy"? |

it's context... he said "stupid chick" not just "chick"... if you say, "fabulous chick" there's nothing wrong with that... "Chick Corea" is another thing altogether, offensive to anyone who has a problem with Scientology. |

I think she was simply referring to the use of the term "chick". Would it me more acceptable if he said stupid woman? My wife simply got a chuckle over the notion that "chick" was now unacceptable. |

Maybe you're right, but to me "stupid woman" sounds clinical, whereas "stupid chick" sounds more patronizing, but meaning is slightly different for everbody. I don't think "chick" is unacceptable, but it is slang. |

"You guys keep this up and 1125chick will be rethinking her handle..." ...or getting addresses!! Intent and perception can be two completely different species. |

Indulge me to apply poignant clarity to my previous post and close the book on this mindless semantic banter. Chameleon's post was offensive to me, next time I'll get right to the point and skip PC. If a "memo" is still needed, just say the word. Let's move on, I'm growing weary. Our world has enough ugliness without sexist nonsense. PS. Chevy you will always be in the 99%. |

Michelle with all do respect I think you have a very valid point. That being said I also think you have your male stereo types confused a bit. By that I mean guys "who haven't had a date in a while" tend to be the quite, sensitive and nerdy types. They load mouth boisterous types tend to be the ones who make degrading disrespectful remarks about women. |

Hmm, interesting... I didn't use the word "chick" once in my post, yet I thought that was the point of contention. Anyway, I'm an equal-opportunity offender. Had a male been stupid enough to walk into the street without looking and been hit, I would have been just as harsh. FYI you're right about me not having had a date in a while because I've been married nearly 10 years. I appreciate intelligent persons, such as 1125chick, irrespective of their gender. |

Not to make light of ANY motorcyclist dying anywhere, but just to put a different twist on this thread... Why did the stupid HORSE cross the road? http://goerie.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20080 727/NEWS02/807270378 And I always thought it was the horses and Amish people who were in danger on public roads with cars and trucks whizzing by... |

Even more strange, I identify with the Amish in a personal way... sorta like Richard Gere identifies with displaced Tibetans. Can't explain it, but I think it's tied to my love for Buells. Sorry for the hijack... (Message edited by Pariah on July 29, 2008) |
