I have an opportunity to buy an 1125 new at a very good price but..... wondering should I wait. Sounds like some very good improvements. Are they worth paying more for and waiting a couple of months. I ride year round and don't any electrical problems for sure. Would like to hear some others thoughts on this? |

I was all gung ho about getting an 1125r a few months ago. The more reading I did here made me back off, as I felt that the issues that folks were having would be fixed for 09. Looks like they've addressed them, now lets see if it did. Sure the new ecm flash will be available, but the other upgrades to the o2 sensor and new injectors, not so much, unless you wanna buy yourself and retrofit. Besides, I'm infatuated with that white and blue sex on wheels edition. |

IMO, there is some variation in the 2008, Buell even put it on record (finally) that they know of the issues and were having a tough time pinpointed the cause(s). That being said, MOST are probably fine running machines. It is hard to gauge here because we have a small cross-section of the Buell community and problem tend to get amplified here. Other than a initial (one-time) glitches with the electrical system, mine has been problem free with excellent fueling and very little surging. Of course, I would recommend the 1125r if it ran like mine, but there is a chance you might buy one of the problem children. Tough call, but if the deal is sweet enough...go for it. |

I have an issue of the fuel boiling for a while each night when I return home from my work commute. I live in the desert, and the ambient is generally around 100F when I come home. I have learned not to pop the fuel cap when the fuel's boiling, or if I do, to release the pressure slowly so that it won't spray fuel. I also leave the garage door partly up to vent the fuel fumes. They are not overpowering, but are pronounced for about 30 to 45 minutes after I get home. I have come to terms with this issue. I don't like it, and my desire is that Buell address it for my bike. But I will not hold my breath (no pun intended). It is not more than an inconvenience, from what I gather. For a time, there was an issue--when the bike was heated as described above--where it was difficult to restart, until it cooled down. I haven't tried starting it recently, when it's real hot. This issue could be overcome by using the 'flooded engine' procedure, documented elsewhere here. It was annoying, but not a show-stopper. I don't have a bad surge problem at low RPM. There's some jerkiness, but not a lot. Actually, the 1125R is comparable to my other twin in this regard. I can easily live with this one. Fuel mileage on mine is 33 consistently. I ride a mix of highway and in-town, probably about 75/25, respectively. I can live with 33 MPG. My battery went dead in a night, the night after having the reflash done. No other battery or charging issues. Though, I do keep it on a Tender between rides. (The charger indicates 'fully charged' approximately 20 minutes after I hook it up, each evening). I don't run 'farkles' and such, no heated gear, but I do use 'high beams' all the time during the day. Both my rear LEDs burned out, and were replaced under warranty. This happened after about 4.5 months of ownership. My personal opinion is they got a bad batch of LEDs in the units, and this one will go away once those bad LEDs are out of the pipeline. If worse comes to worst, I'll get an aftermarket set of rear lights and hopefully be done with it. My clutch cover just started leaking slightly. I understand this will be replaced under warranty. So I'm not worried about it. I have had the bike on-track once. I'm not an expert by any means, but the pleasure it gave me more than offset any and all of these other annoyances. I would buy the 1125R again in a heartbeat. I am glad I did not wait for 2009 to roll around. To finish up this post with some gratuitous insights, I understand the folks that lament 'bags' and 'mileage' and 'raised bars' and all the other 'touring' accoutrement for the 1125R. You can make it do that. But really, I think there are probably other bikes out there that do the job of sport-touring better, and more natively, than this bike. On the other hand, this thing is guaranteed to make you smile, on the track. (Message edited by alans on July 25, 2008) |

no regrets on putting up my money last july. the wait was a little long for delivery and it broke front cylinder cam follower after 2000 miles. engine replaced by Buell 7000 miles ago and no issues since. rode to wisconsin and back from Louisiana for homecoming and heat issues were noticeable late in the day in mississippi on the way back. tim |

+1 Alans Pretty much exactly my story. Havent had the herky jerky at low RPMs though, mine happens to be very smooth every where on the RPM range. Even with all the 'character' of the bike, would I do it again? To quote Alans "I would buy the 1125R again in a heartbeat. I am glad I did not wait for 2009 to roll around. " Definately!! +1 to Alans & Rocket Ray... Except that: o I've not experienced the boiling fuel issue. Ambient temps where I live are about 60 degrees F +/- 10. o I had a bit more trouble with the charging system... Seems to be fixed after the computer update. It was dead the next morning like Alans, but no more after that day. o I average 28-29 MPG, but that has more to do with riding style. o I snapped the final drive belt at ~5,500 miles. We believe this was due to stretching from road debris/dirt in the rear sprocket. I would buy it again in the blink of an eye. (Message edited by Chameleon on July 27, 2008) |
