Hello all. I got a chance to demo some buells at the local HD Buell Demo Truck day. It seemed the firebolt (not the 1125R) was somewhat smoother or more powerful than the lighting xb12s. Given that they both have the same motors, is the firebolt motor tuned differently? Thanks. |

I highly doubt the motors are tuned differently. Your butt dyno was probably off. But no. The hp/tq numbers posted on buell.com are the exact same for lightning vs firebolt. (Message edited by mr2shim on July 22, 2008) |

Both bikes are mechanically identical, so either one bike wasn't running right or you were more comfortable on the Firebolt, causing it to feel smoother. |

Also with the more aggressive position of the 'bolt you might have been more inclined to ride it harder. I rode a friends 12R and was ripping it up before I knew what I was doing. My lightning is just as capable when I want to ride agressive but I'm more relaxed on it otherwise. |

What they said about the state of tune.... But of course the firebolt handles better! ('Cause I have one) |

depending on what year you rode, there were some gearing differences for the 2006 models, but that was only between the 9 and the 12. Maybe you just felt faster because you were hunched over the airbox more on the R |
