Yes well I just had my first backside coping Carve grind through a corner...made all the better by the fact that I was the youngest skater at 35, and I was getting advice from some of the worlds best |

Why were you kidding Xgecko? It was sarcasm then? I would think that a shim is simply a thin brass washer. I know you can get brass shim stock and make your own. Might even find something at the local Aubuchon hardware store. Provides the same function as moving the clip on a Dynojet needle right? |

I checked the HD IPB's and they just have jets not shims. |

Hello again. I got my Blast back from the dealer over a week ago. They changed the auto enrichener and I haven't had any trouble with it since. Just thought you might want to know. The dealer said they do go bad occasionally. Ride safe. |

From all my time checking all the different Buell sites - I've come to the conclusion that the true weak point of the Blast must be the rubber intake boot - anyone have a heavy duty alternative? While my bikes torn apart I'd like to know if there is a fix for this I could apply to my bike. Cracks &/or looseness causing a lean condition is not an acceptable result. There must be a better alternative? Anyone? Just Blasting on the Dark side! EZ |

I have seen a hose/clamplike item for furnace applications that looked remarkablly like the blast carb intake boot only stronger. I ended up not trying it out because the boots I ordered came in before I needed a choice. I found it at an ACE hardware |

Well, I pulled the trigger last Sat. and brought home my new '02 Blast. Due to weather & holiday stuff, I've only put about 100mi on it yet, but I am really enjoying it. My question is this. A couple of weeks ago, someone suggested I ask Richard Nallin about performance mods for the Blast. I received an excellent email response back from him answering all my questions. However, one thing he mentioned, I am not clear on. He mentioned opening up the airbox to improve airflow, how is this best done? On my truck, I've just got a conefilter that's bare, but it's under the hood. I've seen some that have the cone filter stuck out to the side, but cannot determine if that is available for the Blast. I'm also not sure I want the filter that exposed. Suggestions please? TIA Dan |

If you open up your air box, take the filter out then look where the filter is seated and you'll see a buglehorn likepart sticking out into the air intake side - thats your air intake venturi. Cut it off all the way to the filter mount - without cutting off the filter mount(carefull). Then take your standard K & N filter and get a 1/32" drill bit and without piercing the inside drill little holes throughout the filter(take a lighter to any loose fibers) - you are now breathing at 100 % for the Blast intake. One thing though -do yourself a favor and turn your vent directly away from the carb. Nice to see ya back Blake;0) Just Blasting on the Dark side! EZ edited by ezblast on June 19, 2003 |

Oops, didn't realize it was in the Blast vault. My bad. You did well St0rmbringer. I'm not sure about drilling partial holes into the K&N filter though. Never heard of that one before. |

A while back, someone talked about the engine bogging down at mid-RPMs. I had the same thing happen yesterday when I rode my Blast! with a broken exhaust pipe. I was taking it down to have someone tell me how much to manufacture an exhaust. It was intermittent, but in general, when I opened up the throttle, it seemed to want to go more with the partially open exhaust. I'll be opening up the intake soon... What's the current recommended jetting? Still 170/45? What happens if I don't change the needle? |

Joey, 170/45 is a good starting point. I would do some fine tuning once you get your exhaust situation figured out. I would not mess with the needle unless you have time on a Dyno. The engine bogging could be a symptom of any number of things, but will be hard to diagnose if you have an exhaust leak, try following the service manual troubleshooting for "poor performance on road" James |

The 2002 FSM on page 4-18 figure 4-19 shows the bottom of the CV carb. In view "B" on the bottom of the figure, there are two fittings. I am assuming that the bottom fitting is the fuel inlet. Is the other fitting plugged on the 49-state bikes? I believe that that fitting connects to the "carb" fitting on the charcoal cannister that is present on California bikes. Can someone with a 49-state bike please tell me if that fitting is plugged or not? Thanks, James |

Joey go at least 175/45 and you can probably go to 180/45 on the jetting. Stock is 170/42. this is the lean factory setting. Hell - if you did nothing to your bike but up jetting to 175, you'd get an increase in performance. Just Blasting on the DArk side! EZ |

My wife's Blast! is bone stock, and I know they come lean from the factory. What jetting should I use? I'm at sea level. |

2000 Blasts come with 165/42 jetting as stock 01 & 02 Blasts have 170/42. Ed is right you can use 175/45 with no other mods at sea level and actually see better gas mileage (this actually surprised me)...my mileage got better the more I increased the performance. |

Any dealer should have them - great to hear from ya - Xgecko - hows life in the naval world - C&J frames getting cheeper - posted links at the BB group site. Makes you wonder whats next for the little thumper - resrticting bikes to stock chasis and cc's to 505 max means buell should come out with a fuell injected xb/ blast ? St0rm- Don't bother with a 'Jet Kit' as it's mainly just a rape. Just buy a couple of jets. The $90 you may spend on the Blast jet kit from DynoJet (I think K&N sells the EXACT SAME KIT with a VERY similar part number) has 2 drill bits, 1 adjustable needle (the only cool thing in the kit), a new emulsion tube, a new slide spring, and a selection of main (and pilot?) jets. Somewhere on this board I actually posted some info regarding that kit over 1 year ago. It was just the result of questions I asked DynoJet and some measurments I made of the stock vs DJ needle & spring. Just an opinion... -Saro |

A stock Blast is not jetted lean at WOT (I have the data to prove it). In fact far from it. I would not suggest increasing main jet size on a completely stock Blast trying to get a power increase. ....in God we trust, all others bring data |

Maybe I can get my question answered if I ask it a different way... Do the 49 state bikes have one or two hoses hooked to the carb? and Do the 49 state bikes have a float bowl overfill hose like my dirt bike has or is it plugged? James |

Racer X - you have data - I have data - lala - we all have data. The truth is if the factory itself had to up stock jetting because they were too lean and at the current setting they are still on the lean side - probably for EPA. Just Blasting on the Dark side! EZ |
