I got my parts in today and slapped it all back together. When I went to adjust my chain tension, I got no resistance again. After removing the lock nut, I did. This leads me to believe that part of the tensioner bolt has been worn away. Please tell me if something is missing. I have posted pics. Can I just use a longer bolt from a hardware store to replace this one? Also...My clutch is not working now. Is this because there is no oil in the case? When i pull on the clutch handle...I cannot get the mechanism on the clutch to move... its like its stuck or something. I have tried to adjust it to no avail. Any advice? Thanx | ||

for peace of mind order another bolt - or give us you bolt length to tell if its worn - should be a speck in the parts manual - not pulling mine out just now - lol - EZ | ||

Sounds like your tensioner shoe is toast. There isnt any way the bolt could wear down (unless something was very, very wrong). Bolt looks okay, it would have some very rough wear if it wore down. Also, it does sound like the ball & ramp assembly is installed incorrectly or is missing a part. Follow the adjustment procedure in the manual again (although a moot point now if your shoe is toast). | ||

No, this is a new shoe I am trying to install. My shoe WAS toast LOL...im repairing. The problem is the bolt and clutch right now | ||

There are two holes in the shoe - perhaps the spring is in the wrong one? EZ | ||

Nice catch EZ! Yeah it sounds as if the shoe is installed incorrectly or they gave you the wrong shoe. I can measure a bolt tomorrow. There is the unlikely possibility your primary chain is overstretched. I highly doubt it. | ||

Yes. 2.25". Your bolt is normal. One does wonder if the prior owner took the ill fated advice of backing the bolt out and letting the tensioner do all the work! Or maybe they followed the manual, with a little extra torque. | ||

After looking at the pics that Themagster put up of the primary...im positive that I installed the shoe spring wrong. I didnt put it on the shaft, I installed it on the side. Wow...im glad I caught that one. I still dont think that this would make the bolt bottom out. I might be going with Gearheaderiko on this that the chain might be over stretched from all the abuse it has taken. After I install the shoe and spring the right way, Ill check to see if it made a difference. If not...i guess my chain needs to be replaced too. Wow...this is a real nightmare. I hope I can get my clutch working too. | ||

LOL!! Well...I got it all up and running with your help guys. Took me a while to get the clutch just right, but now its perfect. And that synthetic 20w-50 really DOES make a huge difference with the clutch and shifting. Smooth as butter now! Thank you for all your help guys!! | ||
