>>>>Court, are you going to be attending the Demo Day at Liberty again this year? I wouldn't be surprised to see the annual Liberty event go ff the charts" like Homecoming did. No specifics yet . . I just know the players involved and you can't get music, motorcycles and mania that close to each other with out some spontaneous combustion. Me? . . I'm holding out for trying to get Dave Gess here. If you've never met Dave, you'd be in for a treat. Stay tuned to the Liberty sponsor section. The "Special Buells" chapter was fun. Some you've seen, some you haven't and some that should have never happened. It's a tad early and although there was nothing "confidential" there was the risk of ruffling feathers that no one needed now. There are a couple others things that'd darn sure be a must for a 2nd edition or another book. Fun stuff all and great folks! Part of the fun of writing it was reliving memories with some really neat notes. . . read the part about Nate and Dez (the first person ever to "retire" from Buell) and you'll learn a lot about the company. |

Then write/print up a Buell Custom workbench top book, kind of like a coffee table book only with grease-proof paper. Then with a Seinfeld/Krameresque slant you could have little foldout motorcycles to use as feet to hold it up or open. Does the 25 years book have a list of models and quantities built table in it? |

Well after a rant here and e mailed rant to them I finally got some response. I don't know about the rest of the world but where I am from being ignored for 4 months is NOT good customer service. All they would have had to do was send a note once a month saying "it is in the works". I am looking forwards to receiving the book too after reading the chapter in Fuell I just know it is going to be a read through once started book! mark61 |

"had to jump through to get the book approved" Rat, we had to jump through zero hoops because, if you look closely at the small print page at the front you will see the disclaimer that H-D and Buell had nothing to do with this book. They were quite insistant that we include that line. I think we told the truth, the occasional lapse is one of embellishment that simply informs on the truth of the situation. We do have a few events missing that should have been included. There are also many stories that simply cannot be told until Erik, Court and I are teetering about the home trying to turn on the nitrous bottle on the wheelchair. I am with Court, a copy of this book to everyone who bought a 2009 Buell would quite simply be an off the charts marketing success. It would, in the interest of full disclosure, put a little money in my pocket but not enough to buy all but the cheapest new motorcycle but I don't think that is influencing my thinking at all. Thanks for all the kind words, I like to think I tell a pretty good story, we all know that Court does, so I appreciate the kind words. Dave |

If you guys did this book just for the sake of making a few dollars, and not for love of the brand and the sport I do not believe that it would have all of the pictures, or be the same book at all. The affection for all things Buell shines through on every page. I won't be in the market for a new Buell for several years, but I too would like to see Buell making a package deal with each 25th anniversary model Buell owner receiving a copy of the book from Buell. It's all about building the family atmosphere and strengthening the Buell community. It takes a special type of person to buy a Buell, and i was really amazed talking to people from around the world at homecoming and discovering just how much we had in common outside of just owning the same brand of motorcycle. Kind of like the unusually high number of machinists that own Buells....Buells exert an attraction on certain kinds of people with certain values. uh-oh, I wandered waaaaay off point. Anyway, we understand the wish for Buell to give a copy of the book to the 25th anniversary bike owners and I know I don't see it as a conflict of interests. |

Diablo, this was certainly done out of love. I have wanted to do a book for a long time and at some point very early one the idea that someday there might be a book in this came to me. It was pretty hard to picture when the company was sinking back in 1986 but I certainly tried to record as much as I could. I would have like to seen the book be quite a bit bigger with larger and more photos but we did not have the budget. |

Court, Read thru this whole thread today, I am getting mine soon. Yeahh!! I feel your pain as I spent saturday in Minneapolis driving my nephew around in my 07 Lariat, truely a wondrous vehicle. I get about 120 mpg of gasoline and 16 mpg of alcohol so I have even less guilt than before, if that is possible. I was stunned to discover that a Porsche Cayman gets the same mpg as a Mazda3. Rob and I leaned in favor of the Porsche but his SO seems smitten by the Mazda3. Women are so unpredictable. Jean did love the Lariat, so I think he may have found a "keeper" |

I got an Email from Whitehorse today saying my remaining 2 copies shipped today. I should have them Monday, and I can't wait until I can actually read a copy! The 2 copies I picked up at Homecoming were sent to Germany with one of my German friends - the sacrifices one makes for Buell brothers. I did page through one of the copies from Homecoming long enough to find the pictures I submitted though. I think this is the first time in history that I will be looking forward to a Monday, 1313 |

Selling well and now shipping! You guys need to get on Amazon and post reviews so the "non-Buell fluent" can have a flavor for how cool some of the info is. Thanks to all! |

I received my copy yesterday and am about halfway through it at the moment. I came to page 66 and was surprised to find a bunch of kana staring at me from the face of a reproduced business card along with the caption: "When Erik traveled to Japan he needed a Japanese business card. We have no idea what this said but the Japanese seemed to like it." I have my doubts about that second part, but it gave me a chance to exercise some forgotten parts of my brain and translate (sadly, I never learned enough kanji to read that, but my kana, while rusty, is still serviceable). The upper left reads "Erikku F. Byuuaru" and the mess immediately below it is the tagline, "Warudo Kurasu Amerikan Mootaasaikuruzu" ...try sounding it all out, clipping the single u's really short so they almost aren't even said, and I think you can puzzle it out. The card lists a "Uisukonsin" address and even includes his "fakkusu" number. I got a real kick out of this. Maybe it's because it's 8AM on a Saturday and I haven't had any coffee yet. Court and Dave, thank you both for a great look at the history of these bikes. (Message edited by darthane on July 19, 2008) |

The copy I pre-ordered will be waiting for me when I get back home, I have the one I got at homecoming (signed by the principal trouble makers....I mean: Court, Dave, Erik, Abe, "Flick", and the members of the dinner panel)with me to spread the good word. The signed copy will be retired from active service when I return home, but I couldn't wait to share the method to my madness. |
