s2 you are right, we worked a bit to get the belt without the logo. After all it was not a sporty. At the time the price was the same to the customer, don't know what may have happen since. It tell you a bit about how much Buell has grown, in 95/96 it was a victory when we could get HD let us buy a belt without the logo on it, now they are doing fuel in the frame and perimiter brakes! |

\image 1st dyno runs Finally got S-2 on dyno for first baseline runs.Trans shifted like butter.Motor pulled strong all the way to rev limiter.Mr. Nallin seems to have nailed jetting.Am adding EGT probes next week and will finish dyno runs after that.Bodywork is supposed to be finished next week also.Might actually have a bike together soon. |

Jim, congrats! Mind if I toss out a suggestion? Okay I will See where your torque is peaking? The torque curve describes cylinder fill. You're getting your best cyl fill at about 4700rpm. Horsepower is torque times rpm, so the higher in rpm you can move that torque peak, the more horsepower you get, it's a fact of physics. There are things you can do to move that torque peak to the right. When you do them, the horsepower will come up significantly. To see what I'm talking about, take another look at my torque curve: See the difference? What places that torque peak is a cooperative effort between the cams and the exhaust system. When people talk of a "good marriage" between the cams and the pipes, this is what they're referring to, have both of them working at the same rpm. I'm not saying you've got to change your cams ... I think there's a huge opportunity to raise your power significantly by just working on the exhaust system a little. My guess is that with your cams, the optimum point to put that torque peak will be around 5800-6000rpm. Be aware that when you do this, you'll create a huge mid-range flat spot (blubber blubber). The exhaust shoves back during overlap a couple thousand rpm below where it's drawing, causing a reversion which makes the motor go rich. It can be fixed with a Zipper's "Thunderjet" kit (mine has one, although there's still some wavieness at 4200rpm), but it really doesn't matter for this kind of racing. You go through it once in first gear and never see it again. Drag pipes work great for this. Short drag pipes in particular. Start at about 35" and cut'em down a little at a time, watching that torque curve. When you cease to get any more peak hp, and all you're doing is narrowing the powerband, stop. If you want to do a step pipe and can talk Pammy or Wes into sharing the dimensions they specified for my pipes, it'll work even better. Good luck! AW |

Aaron,I have the stock race pipe/muffler on there right now.I had started on drag pipes and then switched bodywork so they did not fit any more.Any benefit to be gained running without the race muffler and just leaving race pipe open, perhaps with an extension pipe--don't know as I will have time to get 2nd set of pipes done?\ Any other tuning tips? So,I am guessing that on the salt its H/P thats going to get more speed, not torque----?? |

FMJ, Anywhere you go in the universe, it's horsepower not torque that will get more speed. To get the higher HP, move the higher torque to the right. That sure is a nice streetbike dyno curve though. One of the best I've seen. What cams are you running? |

Yeah, what Blake said, hp is what matters. A race kit pipe? Okay, now that chart makes sense. Despite the name, that's a streetbike curve. There's a big opportunity for improvement if you can make yourself a drag pipe system. I buy pipe bends from these guys (in your neighborhood) as well as Zippers and then weld'em together. Of the stock routed type pipes I've tested, the Force race pipe wins hands-down. You might at least try to score one of those. It still isn't as good as a well tuned set of drag pipes though. |

ELF-LY SPEAKING. . . . HOTEL ROOMS: Well, ya'll went and did it. We "overflowed" the 33 rooms in our block at the Staleline Hotel. For anyone who could not get rooms at the Stateline and wants to stay there with the Team, rooms are still available. Please contact Shannon Reed, Convention Sales Manager, directly at 801-776-0203 or on her mobile at 801-870-1491. She also has a toll free number at 1-888-217-3727. I've found it easiest to contact her on her mobile phone. Just tell her that you are with Team Elves. |

Court - Do you still have your Buell belt? Any chance you will bring it to Boneville with you? I think that is the only spare I don't have - I really don't think I will need it, but? FMJ - If you are going crazy and have an empty feeling in your wallet I understand. If it helps I have a Force Streetfighter pipe on my S1 and you can borrow it. Fssnoc2501 - NICE! |

Thanks Aaron & Court ,I will sit tight at the moment and let it all come together. If all else fails watch out for a low flying rent-a-rocket travelling on the correct side of the road.I planned the earlier and later dates for the reason of sleep or sight seeing whatever needs to happen and also not have to leave early and miss out on the fun. Thanks Ross. |

Is all else fails there are 3 transports available, State Line offers no shuttle service to/from SLC. - Greyhound Bus (this sucks, lowest form of transportation did it last year) leaves 9:20am, 6:00pm, 10:00pm - Casino Caravan, 800 876-5825, leaves everyday from SLC to Wendover 9:00 am - Donna's Tour, 800 831-0749, leaves from SLC (855 NW N Temple) to Wendover 9:00 am and 6:15 pm, $10.00, she says you get about $20 worth of coupons, &.50 cash refund from a casino, drinks on shuttle, needs to know in advance) Hopefully I'll be able to flag down some XL teammates as they pass through on the 18th, if not I'll take Donna's tour. FMJ - There is currently a Force pipe on ebay, 2 days left at $102. I looked at this pipe maybe 6 months ago, a local dealer is selling it, and would have bought it if I wasn't locked into and waiting for the one I have now. Court - thank you for bringing the belt. There is construction near my house and currently gravel on every corner - someone is not to MC friendly around here. |

To continue. . . . The Team Elves Dyno Lab, it appears, runs pretty much 24/7 this time of the year. Folks will begin arriving in Berthoud the weekend before (if I recall correctly) for tuning. The entire entourage from the Wilson Farm will set out to Bonneville on Wednesday. Aaron can fill in detail when he gets time. I'm sure you'd be welcome. Woz, Jack and possibly one or two others will set sail in the bread truck (tarps were being cleaned and sorted yesterday) and arrive on Monday to assisit in Course Prep. Woz is collecting 50 donated traffic cones today and during the course prep time he will cordon off 300' of pit space for TEAM ELVES and begin laying our the TEAM ELVES COMPOUND per plan (CAD .dwg file 9653.Rev4) Preliminary work will include erection of the AMERICAN and TEAM ELVES flags to mark the compound to arriving neophytes. On Wednesday, the wagon train departs Colorado and Vickie and I arrive in SLC. We will be greeted by Ross who will help unload cases of TEAM ELVES logistical support gear and get them into the motorhome and a Volvo Cross Country. Then it's off to Costco to lay in the 2 page shopping list to supply the TEAM ELVES "round the clock-racer stomach fill" installation. Not sure if this helps, but it'll give you an idea of the shape of the plan. Court |

TEAM ELVES UPDATE 1) Anyone still needing a room, the Statelin has assigned us more. Deadline is 09.13.02. If you need more info, drop a note to TEAMBUELLELVES@AOL.COM. 2) Anyone, arriving my vehicle, that has access to and can tote along a 40 cup coffee pot, let me know. I can bring one, but already have 200# of freight headed that way and would prefer not to be stared at carrying the Church's coffee urn on my lap. 40 cup or anything bigger than filling the "borrowed from the room" Mr. Coffee 83 times a day. More to follow with countdown update starting on Friday night. Court |
