Coming home from a nice ride today; about two miles from home the check engine light came on in the middle of 4-lane rush hour traffic. Took next exit to get home and the dash indicator lights were getting dimmer and power getting less. I was able to get it through the net stoplight and that was it, nothing. Battery dead, won't crank, start up FI pump won't run.

So some history, I purchased this bike 2 months ago with 6700 miles on it. Took it in for 5k service. Flywheel sprocket nut loose. Loooong story short, needed new flywheel. My AMAZING dealer here in Portland, called Buell and Buell/HD took care of the entire repair.

I installed a Stebel horn the other day and wired it the right way with relay Etc.

So the magic question is, did I cause the problem with the horn or did the rebuild of the motor have something to do with it or just coincidence ?

Could be coincidence. Hard to tell whether it's the stator or voltage regulator. They'll need to check both.

Sucks.

When my stator/regulator/77-connector failed I never got a warning light.

Sucks. +1.

Check your battery terminals. SOP when a dealer works on your bike they disconnect them, I've ALWAYS found them loose afterward.

On the pessimistic side your bike may have dumped one or all three of the charging parts. If warrantied still be sure the mechanic working on your bike is familiar with and yes, even likes Buells.

I doubt it was related to the horn, if it was, whatever was done wrong would have either blown a fuse or been on fire by now.
