lets see you do something with a bike...but i bet your one of those guys that uses money to have the dealership to do it because you have no mechanical skills...and i bet no riding skills either Nope. Dealership doesn't touch my bike. (except for the headlight recall that is coming soon) Unlike you I don't have money to just piss away. I spend on what needs to be bought for the bike. But I really could care less if you believe me or not. Nice post Viper9885 Good stuff. (Message edited by mr2shim on July 14, 2008) |

Here's an engine I just finished. and after $11k(roughly $5k into the engine) i "May" have about 130 from 106 stock HP. I didn't choose a Harley based engine because of the loss of reliability. I'd estimate a 250HP XL based engine would cost realistically at LEAST $22k. But then, the chance of it grenading and needing ANOTHER $22k would make such an engine "cost prohibitive". As a machinist with over 22 years on the job i have a passion for building engines. Please stop this nonsence. It isn't going to happen. |

How about this one i built. S&S 89" stroker kit 10.5:1,Branch heads,Andrews cams,Amtec roller rockers,Single fire/Dyna ignition,Super-E/w Thunder jet. What a piece of crap.Ate clutch baskets,Shorted stators.Stripped the splines off of the transmission output shaft (I thought i blew the trans that time). Ate third gear countershaft. My point is,these things are near their limits of reliability at anything over 120hp. Speaking of which, the engine above only made 93hp/100lbs/ft torque. Kid,buy a new GSXR1000 and park it next to your Buell. And be happy |

You mean like ported/port matched/big cammed/dialed heads? Custom fitted 13:1 pistons? I like that the kid aspires to make horsepower. It's just that his goals are unrealistic |

Ericz has a xb that he built a turbo for. Here is a link to the thread and a link for a video of his bike. http://www.badweatherbikers.com/buell/messages/327 77/328031.html http://s63.photobucket.com/albums/h139/ezracing900 /?action=view¤t=000_0446MOV.flv |

Back when I was in machinest school cnc was new we used all manuel machines and a digital readout was High tech.My first real job was in a shop with screw machines used cams and stops adjusted tooling with brass hammers. diffrent sizes for diffrent adustments. They were made in the 40s If you could run them any thing was easy. once set up they would run on and on for ever with a few tooling changes. min runs were 500 parts. Now run cncs and sometimes run only 1 part between changes. The old screwmacines were like buells simple and run forever. If something broke you fixed it. On the cncs I run if it breakes, way to often Lots of the time it is a call to France to wait on a tech |

But will it stand up to repeated abuse? A friend of mine has been running Nitros-oxide and now reports a damaged engine as a result. The rest of the engine needs to be robust enough to accept the increased displacement(artificial displacement). But hey, ignorance is bliss,or so they say (Message edited by Ducxl on July 15, 2008) |

......weren't you just crying about someone making a joke about jews? now here you are talking about nazionline. To make a very long story short I was referring to a car forum. You'd think it was run by Nazi's. Internet Dictatorship at it's best. Probably only 3 people on this board know what I'm talking about. I should have worded my comment differently because of that. Bitter much? To the OP: Something you may want to consider is that if you lower the compression ratio you lose off boost response. I'm a fan of running high compression and low boost, for less lag and greater driveability; ie better on a road course. If you want all out top speed and power you're going to have to run a big turbo, deal with the lag that comes with it, and also lose additional off the line power from dropping the compression ratio. It's all a compromise. |

From SCTA, I don't see any HD or Buell's in the 1350cc class that have gone above 200 mph. http://www.scta-bni.org/SCTA-NewWeb/Bonneville/BNI recs_bikes.htm If you can do it, great. If at sometime in the future you can prove a 200mph+, 1350cc or less XBR to this audience, I'm sure we'll all be VERY interested. Until then, you may want to consider how my dad taught me to act when dealing with folks I don't know: "Walk & talk slow. Don't be boastful. Listen to what they have to say. You just may learn something." As a sidenote, I actually applaud your enthusiasm, I would however recommend you re-evaluate your approach. |

I am still running stock compression with stock pistons, rings, spark plugs, cylinders, heads, rods, crankshaft, and cams. Boost response is great and will get even better with the new design I am currently fabing up. I have put over 5k miles on my setup with only one mechanical failure. The stock rear head gasket blew out when I tried running the 7 psi around town without the water injection hooked up. I since installed Cometic MLS top end gaskets and SE cylinder studs and have not had a single problem since. I have inspected the top end components for wear/damage twice since the install and have found nothing wrong thus far, so all I have to say is "Yay!!!!" |
