Not *everywhere*, but in enough places for concern. And I don't know that it's oil, but I do know that it's from my bike. Sure looks like oil (light brown color). Anywho, on to the story..... I took the bike out of town this last weekend. It was the first time. I'd guess 250 miles in one shot, averaging 85mph, only stopping for gas. On one of the stops to get gas, I noticed the oil. Sitting on the bike, it was on the right side, up on airbox. Also on the fork (right side). Not a lot, looked like it had been splashed on. It was also on my sleeve and my glove (right arm). Anyway, I cleaned it all up and got to where I was going. Left the bike in place all weekend, got it this morning. No oil pool. Get back on the highway to come back home, and within 30 minutes, oil splashed all over. Just like before, not a lot, but all over. So....any ideas? I'll post pictures when I get to work tomorrow. |

Sit on the bike with the front brake on and pump the front suspension up and down. You should be rewarded with oil all over you and possibly in your eyes so I think a set of safety glasses might be in order when doing this. |

Here are the pictures. Shouldn't there be more oil lower down if it's the fork seal? In any case, the bike only has about 5000 miles on it now...how often do those go? Is it hard to replace?

Well, I wiped it all down and pumped away. I didn't see any oil leaking out of it. Is there any other place it may be coming from? |

Well, it's definitely not the fork seal. I let the bike idle for about 5 minutes, and smoke started coming off it. Oil is running down the airbox and dripping on the headers, which was causing the smoke. I also saw the oil actually dripping....and this was just at idle. Any other ideas? |

Took off the airbox to try and see down in it. The air filter has oil on it, and there's oil surrounding the plastic case that the oil filter sits on....mainly in the back of it, but that's probably because it was just blown back by the air. So....is there supposed to be oil sitting in there? In my pictures above, the second picture shows where I suspect some of the oil is coming from. |

After I rerouted the crancase breather hoses my bike started to pump oil out everywhere. One of the hoses had a little offcut of rubber in it which blocked the rear breather and pressurised the crankcase. Check your breathers/pressure control valves on the rocker covers by pulling them out and blowing into both ends to see if the valve is operating. May also be where the oil line is attached to the oil pump. Warm it up and rev it while stationary to see if the oil is coming out under high pressure or just oozing out of a defective gasket. |

I pulled what I could off of it, blew in stuff, tugged on stuff, and still leaking. I broke down and took it in. Rocker box needs to be replaced. Stater plug needs to be replaced. |
