I'm looking to get some EXPERT advice from all you Uly experts out there. Lord knows you guys know WAY more than any Buell tech (at least in my area) I have a stock '07 Uly,5000 miles. I'm ready to void my warranty by installing a Micron exhaust, changing the ECM, open air box, K&N filter, Iridium plugs and Amsoil synthetic. (anything else anybody can recommend or thinks I should change would be helpful too!) My concern is..... #1 reliability. I don't want to start having problems with the bike once I start changing stuff. #2 Gas mileage. I'm expecting to lose some, but how much should I expect? I LOVE the bike now and use it everyday as a commuter. If by making the changes I've mentioned, what should I expect to gain in performance, and should I expect to lose reliability? |

#1- I think you'll see no measurable reduction in reliability. #2- My guess is that if you lose any mileage, it will be due to a change in your riding habits. My guess from what I've seen posted here is you may pick up ~10 or so rear wheel horsepower from the above changes- enough to really enjoy without coming close to making a time bomb out of your engine. |

I actually get better mileage with the race ecm than I did with my stock ecm. |

AE - that's what I needed to see. I've got an 06 with open airbox and a Drummer, and since the Drummer install (again, probably due to "riding habits", lol) I've lost about 4mpg. Stock ECM. Been thinking about the race box, but didn't want to spend the $ and find....same mileage as before. <sorry> |

I got a Lightning Long, (or uly short as i call it), Micron, Race ECM, Open Airbox, K&N, Iridium Plugs (going in soon). I love it. I have had a few minor reliablity issues related to the muffler, but its at the dealer right now getting straightend out. I have only had this setup for about a week, so its too soon to give a real opinion about it yet. Overall i love it. I gained 5HP over the Drummer, which is already a performance pipe. MPG has gone down from mid 50s to low 50s, but i blame that on the right hand more than anything

I bet Al has a map he can sell you for exactly that setup that will give you great reliability and performance. Should be a sweet setup. |

I got the LAST Buell Race can on the west coast for the XB9, I put it on with before mile one, by the time I took possession of said bike, I was told that it would be not covered under warranty. 23K miles later. Running it every chance I get. I did have to have my ECM replaced at 10k. NO other engine reliability issues. (the other stuff I cause myself by riding off road with a 'street' bike) |

Just to let you know, perhaps its my bad luck, my bike is in the shop, i blew the front header right out the bike! somehow the exhaust flange broke off. No word yet on how long till i get back on the road. |
