Well, I received a free blast. It's been just sitting in my cousin's garage for 5 years. It has only around 3000 miles on it. So today I decided to do the trans fluid and engine oil. Well, got that done. I also had to drain the gas completely out of the system since it's just this old gas hanging out there for years. Well no luck. I also replaced the spark plug.

The bike tries to start. You hear it sputter here and there so you know that the bike is getting fuel and firing here and there. I just don't know if it's getting a constant amount of fuel or what. Any help on this issue would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Welcome!!
You're gonna like that thing when you can teach it to do more tricks!
Somebody will be along that actually knows something, but you may want to prowl around in the Thumper section. They have a Knowledge Vault there also, more Blast specific. It takes a little while to find your way around, but everything you can imagine is here somewhere.

I'm betting that you are going to need to clean the carburetor but will need to do some trouble shooting before that. Need to ensure that you are getting spark first then check for fuel in the cylinder.
Good Luck

Sounds like the KLR-250 that I got in pieces. Check out the intake to make sure the filter is clean and the boot is intact, then pull apart and carefully clean the carb.

The first time I cleaned mine, I cleaned all the parts that looked important. That helped, but it still had issues. Then I pulled it apart again, and cleaned every internal crevice till they were perfect (toothpicks, popsicle sticks, and carb cleaner). When I put it back together, it ran *perfect*.

These CV carbs are pretty easy to clean...

For the bored yet lazy:

Assuming you've got a stock airbox, wrap a strap, zip tie, or something around the clutch lever. With one hand, choke the intake. It's on the left side of the airbox and has a little velocity stacklet / horn thingie. With the other hand, hit the starter and modulate the throttle.

I've gotten gunked Blasts to clean out the idle circuit this way. The main can be just as entertaining - but in a different way.

Or you can do it the right way and just open it up and clean.

Personally, I frequently find myself in a bored yet lazy mood...

the bike is definitely getting fuel and spark due to the fact it was getting a fire, just not enough to continue turning the motor over. It started a few times but then died out. So it must be fueling and sparking. We tried shooting some starter fluid in the throttle body and that seemed to help a tad if you had the TB closed after you sprayed it in.

It was firing somewhat because we could hear it and the motor itself was getting quite hot. I guess I'll try to clean the carb and see where that gets me.

+1 on cleaning the carbs out really well. 5 years is a long time for gas to sit and gel in those things.

We just had to do that to my buddy's new [to him] Katana 600...only there were four of them. >.< He was having very rough starts and it would idle all over the place (and die completely without a good amount of choke). Just needed to be cleaned out well.

so... the bike started, but not easily, but it doesn't idle. So it could still possibly be the carb being dirty? I'm going to try and clean it more in depth.

alright success. It is started! and it works and rides... we have one issue though. It drops RPM's kind of slow. I'm not sure if we messed up the shims in the carb. If anyone knows what the issue may be, please help me out! I'm glad though that the bike is at least finally running and driving.

Also if anyone has how to correctly shim the carb from the service manual, i'd also appreciate that. Unless i just have the throttle cable just messed up?
