So I finally got my 99 S3 and I noticed that little belt jump issue. Can someone please expand on this issue a little more? What is the cause and correction for this problem? It basically sounds like a little chirp/pop when the clutch is released from a stop, as if the tire was losing traction for a second, but isn't. Is this a common issue? Before i go noise hunting i wanted to see if anyone could be of any assistance. Thanks. Greg BTW Dont forget to get your Mccuff. The no spill motorcycle fill. It is friggin awsome!! It protects your paint when filling up by eliminating gas spills and tank nicks from the nozzle. www.mccuff.com |

ok Dnchevyman. but have you tried one? I doubt it because you wouldn't think it was ridiculous if you have used one. But hey, you know what they say about opinions! Try it. Hey they have a 100% money back guarantee, so whats there to lose? |

That thing must be made for people who can't hit a hole without hair around it. |

Nowhere to carry it unless I have a slingbag with me. Plus, I don't have to mess with those vapor collection tubes on the gas pumps in Georgia anyway - a non issue for me. If your belt is actually skipping, it's probably too loose. It sounds like it could be something else though... like maybe the spring plate in the clutch. |

I guess I could kind of see the need for one if you have an OCC chopper with custom paint... http://www.dealernews.com/dealernews/Industry+Pres s+Releases/McCuff-Industries-Inc-Announces-A-Three -Year-Endor/ArticleStandard/Article/detail/522859 Is Al Castro a family member of yours, Greg Castro? The peddling is pretty blatant... and a bit insulting the way you broached it. |

"I guess I could kind of see the need for one if you have an OCC chopper with custom paint... " I didn't think anyone could ride one of those things long enough to need to fill it up... |

Inspect your belt for cracked or missing teeth. I think I would rather have gas on my "custom paint" then in my bag/pocket/backpack. Plus I have never seen paint on any tuber just start to peel off from a small gass spill... You may sell some of these to owners who have translucid plastic... |

My bike does similar the chirp / squeal is the clutch, the lurch if it is not the belt may be the 1/4 gear set ( XL Ralph suggessts checking that ) I have this issue at 34k miles and will be looking closer this winter. |

Thanks oldog. I'm gonna have to do some digging and see what i find. I'll make sure to post my repairs. And yeah djkaplan i think i am having an issue with the clutch spring. It has a race clutch that i think i'm gonna replace with the factory clutch. And yes, Al is my uncle. And i definitely am not trying to "peddle" the mccuff, but trying to not only support the family, but help spread the word about a great product that anyone that has a motorcycle should own. Im sorry if you felt "insulted" in any way by that. Oh and it comes with a bag with a velcro strap that you can strap to your bike and carry it. Thanks for the help |

Greg check the tension on your belt. Might be just a little too loose. Caution make sure you don't set it as tight as the manual calls for. Joe |

Belt tension ~ 2" is good just looser than FSM, I would not re install the spring plate "Grenade plate" back in the clutch the "squeal" is common. I bet it has to do with the clutch condition, mine works ok when I have the lurch it feels almost like the clutch is yanked in and then dumped quickly violently As suggested McCuff may be a hit with the XB guys who have clear body work, please be aware that you must pay for a sponsorship on the board to sell things here and BTW WELCOME .. |

If your Drive Belt is good and the Drive Belt jumps, the the rear sprocket needs to be replaced ... The Drive Belt can be ran as loose as you can adjust it and it will not jump over the sprockets if they are in good shape ... The "INFAMOUS GRENADE PLATE" can cause "MYSTERY PROBLEMS" until removed !!! The XL's have not had the spring plate since 2001, Blast's and XB's never had it ... The BLAST will chirp the tire because it is a single ... Not sure, but "i" think the XB's have a softer clutch spring ... |

Explain the grenade plate to him... he doesn't have one now and is changing back to stock (a stock clutch has a grenade plate). I confused him when I called it a spring plate. |

Awesome advice guys. Thanks! No, i actually know what you are talking about. The original owner gave me the factory clutch which, imo, isn't even that worn. i saw a particular piece that almost looks like it is two slim pieces of ring shaped stamped steel that sandwich a "corrugated" looking wave plate. I'm not going to re-use the original clutch pack even though it looks ok, but so when i replace the race clutch with the factory clutch, i can install the clutch without the plate? Do i have to install anything to compensate for the thickness of that plate, or can i just take up the extra slack with the cable. Its kinda tough to diagnose the problem due to the fact that i have a cast on my right arm and its damn near impossible for me to ride it. I checked the belt and watched it carefully as my dad sat on it and let the clutch out in 1st gear a few times. The belt is in great shape with no missing teeth, and does not appear to be slipping. I went for a short ride on the back with my pops , and im willing to bet its the clutch acting up. It definitely is making the squeek noise, and just feels super grabby. I dont think i'll ever get that race clutch hot enough to let it perform efficiently, so im gonna wait a few weeks to let my hand strengthen up a little more, and replace the clutch and see what happens. |

I cant resist, only in cali! that has got to be the most worthless piece of crap I have seen since the FAKE kick starter hanging off of FXR Harleys. The dancing queen song at the station was write on and ironic. |
