Will Skip Spark damage O2 Sensor? I have read all of our training material at work and have always understood that the SS mode does not spark every other cycle but I have never seen any reference to the fuel injection being altered, no combustion and air/fuel mist would definitely cool the cylinder and head. But how could the unburnt fuel not damage the O2 sensor? Is the injector also skipped? Can you smell an overly rich or unburnt gas during SS mode? My Uly has never gotten hot enough for me to experience it myself. Thanks.

An excessively rich air/fuel ratio will damage the o2, right? Because the unburnt fuel will clog the screen or load up the element, almost like fouling a spark plug. So when the bike goes onto skip spark mode wouldn't the unburnt fuel damage the sensor? I have work at Buell dealerships since 2003 and have never gotten a straight answer.

My dickheadiness comes out sometimes, I apologize.
There is a sales technique to respond to a question with "It would be obvious to the most casual observer that you have a particular reason for asking that question, would you mind telling me what that is ?" It is just convoluted enough to engage the analytical portion of the brain and the confused customer says "What?" It gives the salesperson the control (he who ask the question has the control)and puts the customer on the defensive.
So it just drives me nuts when someone respond to my question with "Why do you ask?" To me innocuous questions like that are like someone dragging their fingernail down a chalk board. Again, I am sorry.

The O2 sensor would have to be in a rich condition for quite a prolonged period of time before any damage is done, regardless. A few sporadic minutes is harmless. Atomized unburned fuel that boils off hot surfaces should do less harm than a rich burning mixture.
