Well the 25th at least went well. It is good to know that there are so many upstanding Buell owners out there. The ride up North went well, then yesterday afternoon at the end of the joy ride, a 2007 Caliber pulled out in front of me at a stop sign. I was going about 45 and was about 30 yards from the stop sign when he thought no one was coming and pulled out. I tried to avoid the whole thing, and ended up hitting the right front corner just in front of the tire. The bike just laid there with its one headlight still on. I was thrown over the hood and landed just the other side of the car and went into the ditch on the other side of the intersection. Luckly only bumps and bruises, 6 stitches, a trip to ER for some X-rays, and now I have to deal with the insurance company. Today I am pretty sore, but at least I am here. The adjuster from his insurance will be out tomorrow and I'd like a heads up on some part cost, and the value of the bike. First off it is a 2003 XB9R with ~12500 miles. Race kit, new headlight, S pegs, and little else from stock. Parts Frame Front end assembly (forks and stuff) Right side pegs Swing arm Chin spoiler Race pipe Front Facia Tank Cover (just sign by Erik) Right side turn signals Top/Bottom Triple Clamp Dash support(magnesium piece) Frame pucks Front Wheel Brake rotor and Caliper(maybe) Rear brake lever Plus my leather, helmet, jeans, boots Pictures will follow To those out there riding, be safe. I hope after all this the 2 in the car will be looking for bikes now on. Thanks in advance. If Anon is out there would you like a bike to inspect, that was in a direct front end accident? By the way it looks as though the frame failed as expected, but it would be neat to know Buell's thoughts. Nate |

Glad to hear you're OK. Bike parts and pieces can be replaced much easier and cheaper than human body parts. If the crash damaged the frame, look for it to be totaled. If everything else on your list was damaged as well, it sounds like a total loss. Make sure when the insurance company figures out your payment check that they include all your protective gear that was damaged as well-helmet, gloves, jacket/pants etc. Anything that was damaged, whether it was part of the bike or part of your protective gear (without such, you would be much worse off) When I had a fire in my garage a few years back, I had a bunch of collectibles that were lost. The adjuster used eBay as a tool to assess value. I'd suggest doing some searching on there to find a like bike (same year/mileage/options) and print them out as "proof" as to what the bike is going to cost to replace. You can search "completed auctions" to get a final auction value. Any receipts you have for installed extras will be a plus. You could also search cycletrader.com for other "for sale" pricing. Buell prices seem to be running about a $800-$1000 higher this year due to $4 gallon gas. |

Glad your Okay.... I'd go to a good orthopedist and get completely checked out... I hate to say it but its going to be a loss.. This isn't like you where out riding with the boys or doing a track day.. If some one pulled out in front of me and almost took my life, I'd contact my Attorney.. Good Luck, Heal Fast... |

That sucks. Glad you’re OK. That’s my biggest fear. My second is being rear ended. I hope that day never comes for me. |

Glad to here you are ok (relatively). I'm not the litigious sort, but what Teddagreek said is a good idea. Talk to a lawyer, and I'm not suggesting you should demand a massive payout, but you may have an injury that isn't apparent now, but will nag you later. Therapy and such later on will cost $$$$. You should not pay for someone else's mistake. |

Man that sucks...glad to hear that you've walked away. Could have been much worse. I just wish cagers would pay more attention. If they would have looked that second or third time you would have not even posted this. Definitely lawyer up. If anything, it will teach that driver to pay attention next time....we hope. |

I am glad you only were mildly injured. As for the bike being totaled it is not a guarantee. You might want to look up what happened to ProfessorStack. His bike should have been totaled, but the insurance company tried to fix it. In the end they basically built him a "new" 03 from parts. It turned out to be a huge headache for him. |

Doh! Nate - still sorry we couldn't hook up for the ride out to Wisconsin, but even sorrier to hear about the wreck. Glad you're [mostly] all right! If they total the bike and you end up parting it out, let me know. I know some people that might be interested in certain bits and pieces. deal... >.< |

is your bike probably totaled, yes. there wasn't a whole lot of damage on the scg when i put the bike down but they look at every little thing. the frame had a tiny scratch on it and they marked it up as unusable. the one reason why i didn't keep the bike was my insurance co. wouldn't insure it since it was marked up as totaled. keep that in mind. when my daughter got on the m2L that i had and settled with the insurance co. they turned around and let me have the bike back for nothing. they had no use for it and didn't want to bother with it. went and picked it up with buellistic and comensed to parting the bike out which aloud me to offset some of the cost of getting another bike. before you get a lawyer, unless you know one, check around and find someone who is responsible enough to get the job done. my daughter had a local biker lawyer and he was a joke. |

>>>>>By the way it looks as though the frame failed as expected I'd be willing to bet it did. It was in development for 3 years, with over 200 "test crashes" to validate the design, prior to release. The bike will do fine. Glad you are okay. |

Where were the stitches? Any gear advice based on your experience? |

Just talked to the adjuster from the other guys insurance. He plans on calling Appleton HD for some prices but its a total. The only good part is the engine and I can't bend over enough to see if the mounts are intact. The parts listed above are what is unusable not what is blemished. Just adding it up in my head I came up with about $4k let alone the scratched bits. He did let me keep the signed airbox cover and the tattooed chin spoiler. I also put in the claim the riding gear. The way I hit the car I doubt more gear would have helped short of full on track leathers. I wasn't wearing my Draggon Jeans though and that may have helped with the stitches other that I would have had Kevlar in the road rash instead of denim. The helmet has a skuff, the jeans are toast at the knees, the back of the jacket has some road rash, gloves are untouched, and the right boot has a tattoo with paint from the fender of the car. Wear Your Gear. It was 80 and sunny while I was out and I am glad I had it all on. |

The stitches are just below the knee cap and toward the inside. I think from the edge of the hood. Looking at the airbox cover, my jeans even scuffed that |

Glad to see your relatively ok Nate. You know your bags will all fit on an 1125! Once you heal back up. How bad is the road rash? I'm glad you were wearing all your stuff. I'll watch out for Calibers on my ride up north this weekend. See you in work man. Justin |

If the frame's damaged it's not worth fixing, might be worth buying the wreck to part out though. Glad you're ok, ATGATT, |

If it's just dented, it would be worth saving as a cheap track bike or keeping him out of a payment of buying a new one... |

I'd ask the insurance company what they want for it.. If it you can get it on the cheap... Then part it out make some bucks or rebuild it.. |

I t-boned a deer this year on my 06 Uly. All was well...the insurance company (a good one) was aggressive, the dealer was nearly as aggressive, and I was very discretionary. I did not need the repairs/replacement to the scraped-up parts. The only mistake I and the dealer made was the frame/fuel tank. All was well until I filled the tank and found a hairline crack in a weld. I took it back for a new frame. Nothing is straight again - nowadays I chalk it up to "character". No one will want to ride my cockeyed Uly! http://www.badweatherbikers.com/buell/messages/142838/335907.html (Message edited by hooper on July 12, 2008) |

Dude, before you settle I would see a spine specialist... even if your x rays are ok I would get a second opinion other than the ER doctor... stuff could surface in a month to a year you may have to deal with for life. Good Luck and keep us posted! |

2X on Whatever said! I just took a buddy who has osteoporosis to the ER because he fell a couple of days ago on his ribs and now has trouble breathing. The ER took X-rays but they didn't show anything but the broken L-2 that he broke in a car accident two weeks ago. The ER doctor said that alot of times when the bone is not displaced and is held together tightly by the muscles that are spasming, it will not show up on the X-ray. |
