A 17 would be nice and effectively increase the rake a bit making it a bit more dirt friendly, for me, but also it will mess with seat height. I have wondered about taking the chin spoilers off and using a gs front wheel on and 07 with 08 tress. Still not sure there would be enough room. | ||

A 17 would be nice... Did you mean 19? I'm thinking maybe Tread's '08 tree swap with stock '06-07 forks and aggressive D-Sport front tire would be about the extent of reasonably inexpensive mods. Anything can be done with enough $$$$, but what's practical? | ||

I've been doing quite a lot of thinking about the large front wheel for off road like the ktm's or klx's. I think It would require some modification to the triple trees to create more room between the tire and chin spoiler. Even removing the spoiler all together doesn't give you much room. Any thoughts from you all? | ||

Xbimmer yes I did! Doh! Blk Uly I was thinking the same but at the cost figure it isn't worth it. What is the diameter of a 19 inch wheel with the tkc mounted up? I do not think a 21 would ever work in a practical, cost effective way. A 19 inch wheel isn't going to be just 2 inches bigger, the tire is also taller so it uses up more room then one would think. I wouldn't consider doing it for another street tire. | ||

Bertotti, The only other solution I can come up with is to change the exhaust can all together. Then again, I just had another thought. what about some type of bracket or apparatus that could bolt to the lower legs and accept the axell therefor relocating it a couple of inches forward allowing more room for the 19inch wheel or maybe even a 21inch! It would increase the wheel base also but for off road It may work out just fine. (Message edited by blk_uly on July 08, 2008) | ||

Unless there is a DS/Knobbie tyre available in 17", using the Uly for anything other than "easy" off road is severely handicapping the ability of the bike. Yes, it will be hard to do, yes it will cost money, and yes it is probably not a very feasible idea. However, it seems as thought it has not been done. Thank You | ||

you may want to look at these bearings http://www.trojan-horse.co.uk/prods/148.html for the steering tube. It will give you an extra 2 degree rake and chin fairing clearance. with the 08 trees and tubes you may get the clearance your looking for. I'm with you line of thinking on a larger front wheel. What kind of brake caliper set up are you looking to mount? | ||

Open at this time. Probably a Brembo along the lines of the KTMs Still toooo early to tell Unless someone comes out with a "good" 17" DS type tyre, this will be a need to do mod Still searching Thank you | ||

The 08 trees with the micron exhaust and a modded tt bashplate will let a 19 fit. Here is a shot with the micron and a buell chin faring.  The modded tt bashplate provides even more clearance. I will try to get a current pic. | ||

Have you tried the Avon Distenzia tires? While I would not consider them a "real" dual sport tire, they do pretty good in everything that I have tried so far, and I have been known to get my Uly into places that Buell did not intend the Uly to play. | ||

Interesting bearing kit. I didn't know the Uly had room for that to fit in. The exchange rate kind of makes it more then I want to spend on it but it is a thought. I still think a couple degrees of rake and the 08 trees widened around an inch and I'd be set, even with the 17 inch wheels, the above mods and tkc's would fulfill my needs and desires at this time. | ||

Thanks Seems that there is a need for a true skid plate for the Uly family of bikes. Not certain as to how it needs to look, but might be an need. Ride Em Buells to Alaska ALCAN 5000 2010 | ||

Be sure to also measure the clearance between the wheel and the bash plate at full suspension compression. It may fit sitting still, but won't clear as the wheel approaches maximum compression. | ||
