Scott: Welcome to the best source of Buell information in history. With regards to "I've been a Harley Sportster and Electra Glide rider for the last 5 years many of us have graduated the same school (personally, I've been 6 Sportsters, FLHTC, XR-1000 and XLCR)but not to fear....we can CURE YOU. As suggested start off by browsing around, flipping over cyber rocks and learn the navigation. The things your bike needs are a matter of fairly well devloped empirical science and I'm betting we'll have your chaps on e-Bay before snow falls. A warm Buell welcome, Court Canfield |

Saeanddte, Welcome to BadWeB! I agree, peruse the Knowledge Vault (KV) archives with an eye towards... 1. Performance intake, or if you actually like the stock box... a K&N filter. 2. Richen up the pilot jet from a #42 to a #45 and optimize the idle mixture screw setting (see carb tuning recommendations on "Carburetion" topic of KV). 3. Add a free flowing exhaust system that'll make make more than a faint whooshing noise at WOT. 4. Avoid all that and go for the complete race kit from the factory and have your engine dyno tuned by a knowledgeable Buell performance tech; the dyno should have an A/F sensor. The race kit replaces #'s 1 and 3 above and gets you a slightly higher performance ignition module. The people at Sport Twin or the Buell Cycle Center, both sponsors of this discussion board, will be glad to give you a good deal on those OEM "race" kit parts. You still should read the archives though. |

Another new guy named Scott with an S3. Hey Scott. This is Scott. How's things? I have an opinion of this site for those who maintain this site. When I first came aboard badweatherbikers, I had a difficult time wading through gigabites of data on the various boards within, looking for nuggets of information. There's tons of talk back and forth, opinions and facts. But it is not bound into a concise, comprehensive group of data. For example, you go to the knowldge vault, and while there are many sub-groups, when you go into any one particular group it is still like drinking from a fire hydrant. Tons and tons of opinions, stories and other stuff. Is there anyone out there would agree that a small FAQ link located in each sub-group would be beneficial. This faq does not necessarily have to be gospel, but a condensed can of knowledge on each topic which we could use as a beginner's guide. Let the stoning begin. =8^) S.C. |

Other M2 owners have this problem? Are there similar problems with the pre-99 M2 tail sections? I'm leaning toward replacing it with the slimmer tail.

Well, the X1 files is pretty much what you want/describe, particularly if your bike is fuel injected. My own S3 Files is also worth a look. (note to self, update the damn thing, José!) |

Thanks for the pics, Jose' Billygoat - It was great seeing you and yours (all four of them) over the weekend. The problem turned out NOT to be the coil (@#$%&*). I moved my questions to the engine - carboration section (hint, hint). AzM2 - I've heard about that happening. My tail section is holding up fine. I haven't checked your profile but what year is your bike? It seems like Buell should cover that - it don't seem right to crack apart like that. |

Scott, I had this young filly in British Columbia rearend a fella named "Snail" who used to share photos of his fishing and lumberjacking adventures here on BadWeB. The idea was that Snail would be laid up for a few months, and being adept with motorcycles and mechanical work, would be put to use in cleaning up the vast disarray that is the Knowledge Vault. Unfortunately I think Snail is still traumatized and daydreaming of the young red headed filly who sent him cartwheeling. Then of course we have our crew of moderators; maybe admin should have dubbed them "board curators" instead of "moderators." Last and least we have the lamo admin who would rather post and blather on about ohm's law and the operational amperage of a light bulb than go to work sorting out the knowledge vault. Organizing and cleaning the Knowledge Vault is a definite plan. Anyone who wants to roll up their sleeves and help is encouraged to volunteer. Until then, judicious use of the forum's "Search" utility is usually very helpful. |

Hey Blake, I bet if we all pitched in, we could do a pretty good job of it in short order. For instance, we could each take a section and do what you just did to the exhaust section (break it into several logical subsections with titles, and put the posts in them, leave the rest in an archives section). Everyone would have a slightly different view of logical subsections, but hey, it'd be better than "Archive through July 16th". The one caution is that you probably don't want to make TOO many subsections, 10-15 max per main topic. Otherwise, it becomes a conflict which section to put something in. For instance, in your muffler section, I probably would have divided it by brand and lumped the different problems for a particular brand into a single section. You're the moderator, you'd probably want to come up with some basic guidelines. I volunteer to do Suspension if you want a volunteer and you think it'd work. But I'm no web hack. You'd have to show me the way to rearrange posts and such. I'd bet you could get a dozen or more volunteers for a single section clean-up like that. Al |

I am STILL an advocate of organinzing the various issues in a fashion much like the Buell Service Manual. Make any sense to have a couple experienced folks spend 2 weeks and look into the most logical, useful and accessible method would be? We have the oppportunity before us to make THE definitive source of Buell information. I'd like to see technical information, model specific, Service Bulletins and Recall Info all cross indexed. It's been a week since the bike was stolen and nothing really happened on that front. No surprise there. I would like to ask the more experienced owners/riders about my next choice. I have to wait 30 days before the insurance payout. A friend who rides an M2 suggested I wait until Jan to get the new XB9S Lightning. I know that the XB9S is based upon the 'Bolt, but as with anything new, there's bound to be some bugs, have there been any known bugs that may carry over to the XB9S ? Are there any advantages in staying with the X1 ? I've been on 500 miles days with my X1, and other than a change to Corbin, I've no problem going long distance. I plan to take a 6 weeks long vacation next year (UT-FLA-PA-UT), has any 'Bolt riders take their bikes long distance ? Will the more upright position of the XB9S be better ? The rear seat area on the XB9S "looks" a lot smaller than even my old X1, can I use my current set of saddlebags ? So far an informal poll at work, from riders as well as non, have been even. Is a 4 yrs production run normal ? If I decide to stay with the X1, will I be able to still get parts and accessories years from now ? Thanks much for any advice. Roderick |

I'll agree with Court on that as well. If you're looking for one specific thing, it can be hard to find, some sort of cross reference would be nice. I'm not the most experienced with Badweb, I'll help if I can. I usually end up printing off the really interesting stuff and throwing it in a binder... |

We actually already have a comprehensive new outline for the KV Architecture. And like Court says, it is a good thing to follow the basic outline of the service manual. |

Roderick, If I was going to buy a new Buell (which I am not), I would wait for the XB9S, unless you got a smoking deal on a used X1 or a leftover 2002 X1 with some major incentives (extended warranty, free accesories, free track day, etc.) Parts support for the tube framers shouldn't be a problem right now, maybe two or three years from now, especially with the aftermarket parts, but it should not be any worse than usual. Awprior, Try using the new messages utility, open all pages of interest, log off internet, read and write any posts you want to contribute but don't hit the "Preview/Post" button. When finished, reconnect and click the post button. Should limit your online time to under a couple minutes. |

Blake, Ideally that's what I'd do. Can't really log off, it's all hooked up though LAN connections. I do much of anything other than send an email, it gets logged. Guess I'll just have to limit it like I have been. Thanks for the suggestion though. Alex |
