I called my Dealer today about the recall. They first told me they were booked up until the 15th of July and had kits coming in. I asked could I get on the schedule and get a kit reserved. They called BMS and called me back to say

*** Buell is not just sending out kits for the recall. They need your VIN number to send the dealer kit now as there is a shortage on the kits. So have your dealer call to reserve you one****

yeah, i wanted mine done over the 4th weekend, since i will be out of state w/o the bike. No "special tool" so no dice.

They're crazy if they think i'm gonna quit riding until they can get stuff.

My letter from BMC dated June 24th states in bold print, and I quote "We strongly urge you to contact your dealer to make arrangements to have the appropriate service performed as soon as possible. You should not engage in race track events or any race-type activity with your motorcycle until this recall has been performed" Sounds to me like any normal riding would be fine. I also, from what has been said, would not want to use 5th gear at really high speed for any prolonged period of time. Just my take. Bob

All Dealers:

We have successfully shipped approximately 1500 of the total requirements for the 0834 recall via wave shipments since this voluntary campaign was announced.

In light of this news, we will discontinue wave shipments as of this day, June 27, 2008, and ask that you start placing orders for these kits via the order form attached to bulletin B-075 located on h-dnet.com®.

I guess if you mis-read that, it sounds like the kits are in short supply. In truth, your dealer needs to now order specific kits for specific VIN numbers because BMC is no longer just blanket-shipping the kits like they did for the first week.

If you call your dealer to schedule the recall service...HAVE YOUR VIN NUMBER READY FOR THEM. They need it in order to help you.

I thought the theory was 15xx were affected, so if they shipped 1500 kits practically all bikes should be covered...

As you learned, not all the kits are in the right place at the right time.

Got the clutch leak, neutral switch leak and Recall maintenance done yesterday. The Buell Tech, Kenny at HD Nassau County, did a great job. He showed me all the parts and explained to me exactly what had to be done. Joe and all the guys in the service department at the dealership have always done an outstanding job taking care of me and my bike. This time was no different. This bike has had some issues, but they have made it less painful. They ordered all the parts for me and then when the parts came in I was able to go in and get the maintenance done, letting me use the bike as much as possible, since it is my primary means of transportation. The trany seems to be shifting more easily now after the recall maintenance, but that could just be me. I know that I am a pain in their a$$, since I have the only 1125R at their dealership, but they don't let it show and they always do a great job. The bike is running great, with no leaks now, and a well lubricated 5th gear.

The pinhole on the clutch cover on the right side of the bike. I believe that it is the same place that everybody's is leaking from. I also had a leak on the other side of the bike coming from the neutral switch.

Glad someone else is reporting a leak from the neutral switch. I noticed a leak a while back and am going to have them look at it when I take it in for the recall.

Guess I'm not along on the clutch cover leak. Was only on the old covers or the new ones as well? Ah well, that's what a 2 year warranty is for. Let them fix it.

Krassh,

The nut and housing for the neutral switch are plastic. The reason it was leaking was that the plastic housing was cracked on mine. They replaced the switch and the o-ring seal to fix the leak. It was covered under warranty. I am not sure why the plastic housing broke. I tried to tighten the nut before taking it to the dealer and before the clutch cover started leaking, but it just turned. I may have cracked the housing, but I highly doubt it. I did not put any kind of force on it and as soon as I tried to tighten it, it just turned freely. I do not know why the plastic housing broke. It may be a design flaw. Just my thoughts.

I tried tightening mine as well. It pretty much just turned as well. I have not checked it lately but I am sure it is still leaking.

The plastic housing is probably broken and the 0-ring seal is probably leaking-by. At least that is what mine was doing.

Some dealers in the UK are finally acknowledging that there is a recall, but unfortunately not mine ( yet ). Some UK dealers have also received recall kits.

Still no recall on the UK govt. agency's recall website either.

HDBUK are finally admitting to a recall but no letters have yet been sent to owners. Some dealers have recall kits but have not been able to get the fitting tools.

Someone isn't doing their job in the UK. Customer relations have been set back years, they seem to be attempting to turn this fine bike into a joke. Several potential customers have told me, they'd now avoid buying any Buell. A great shame.

Hmm, interesting. Pike's Peak Harley here in CO Springs were awesome. Booked my bike in (not the dealer I purchased from btw) and got the recall accomplished.

I'm still leaking from the pinhole on the clutch cover though.

Any fix for that clutch cover leak that we know of yet?

I took the bike in today and had the recall done. Only took about an hour and a half.

May be my imagination, but seemed like the clutch was easier to pull after the fix was applied. Anyone else have this observation?

Still nothing from HD Buell UK about the recall, just spoken to their customer services - the recall still hasn't been announced in the UK and there is nothing on their system under my VIN number - which is a little strange as there is on the HD service checkup page ! I also spoke to someone From HDB UK on their display stand at a show on Saturday and they assured me that kits had been sent to dealers and that recall letters were soon to be sent out - my dealer is still saying that they haven't received any kits and had nothing from HDB UK - I will have to wait for a recall notice and have to have a kit ordered in - this is getting ridiculous and I am seriously considering selling my bike - Buell you are in the process of losing a once loyal customer that has, in the past, defended you to the hilt !

I suspect that given the variances in the USA and UK laws (be mindful that a recall is a procedure guided by legal mandate, not common sense) has something to do with this.

I, just based on 20+ years of Buell riding, would suggest you keep on top of the Buell UK folks rather than threaten. I've yet to see anyone get any results as a result of a veiled threat.

Something sure seems amiss at Buell UK.

Court, I don't see this as a veiled threat - it's not going to bother HD Buell one bit - the bike's paid for, the only one who's going to suffer is me ! It's just more than a little annoying when there is no "party line", one UK bike has already had the recall work done and another is scheduled to be done today and an independent Buell technician has seen the kit - and yet Buell tell me that there is no recall and my dealer says that there are no parts available when obviously there are. I'm extremely fed up with the situation as I was until now putting money in their pockets - I've spent about £20,000 ( $40,000 ) on HD and Buell products in the last year !

If I were in the UK and did not get the response or service from my dealer that I wanted, I would call Buell customer support.

Buell UK, Customer Support
The Works
Colville Road
London
W3 8BL
Tel: +44 (0)870 9049 984
Fax: +44 (0)870 9041 451

If that did not work, I would call Buell Customer support in the US.

Buell Customer Support
1(414)343-8400

Buell main office
1 (262) 642-2020
fax: 1 (262) 642-2030

I would also start finding all the e-mail addresses from Buell that I could and start emailing the crap out of them till they fix my bike. Just what I would do.

Mike

Spoken to their customer service in both the UK and the USA - UK are still in denial and the US say it's the UK's problem !

I would imagine that Erik's personal email address is closely vetted to ensure "junk" doesn't get through !
