It seems I'm picking up some unusual vibes in the pegs. My font isolator is fine so far, and the bars are smooth as glass, but recently I'm noticing the peg vibes more than I remember. It seems to be one of the following: High freq continuous (buzzing) vibes, or "pulsing" vibes that seem to hit then go, then hit again like it's cyclic, or no vibes at all. I recently checked the primary chain, and everything seemed in order. Very odd, but not yet a big deal. Anybody ever experience these "pulsing" vibes in the footpegs. Thanks. Josh |

Give your muffler a little kick. My X1 would buzz like that when the muffler got loose. |

1. Check your footpeg brackets for bolt tightness. 2. Have you changed your boots due to warmer weather? Just a couple off the top of my head... |

I've noticed it recently to. I have a new isolator that I put in last week. It needed it for sure. I'm gonna try lubricating the heim joints on all of the engine mounting hardware. The next thing on my list of ideas is maybe a new belt. 28000 miles and it looks good, but it could be the cause. |

I lubed my heim joints and that seems to have done the trick. I didn't even get to the ones under the airbox cover yet. Quite a bit smoother. I was looking at the rear isolator as a problem to, but I feel the lube job will suffice. |

I think I have the same issue as you. I changed the isolator last night and I didn't notice a whole lot of improvement. I have sprayed the joints in the past and have not noticed a difference. How exactly are you spraying the lube on them? I use silicone spray and just spray directly on the joints for a second or two burst. Thanks, AR |

I used PB Blaster. After I wash the bike next I will use a few drops of motor oil. Silicone spray may be staying where you put it. The Blaster works through it. |

Is that safe on rubber? |

Is that safe on rubber? Really guys, you gotta be careful. Petroleum distillates can damage rubber products... |

As far as I know, the heim joints do not have any rubber in them. I use "Lubit-8". It's a penetrating lubricant in a small tube with a needle applicator. A couple drops is all you need and the stuff works great. Also good for cables and just about anything else. I agree that you should never oil anything rubber as the oil will deterioriate the rubber. A little pure silicone is good for rubber but that's about it. |

I am guessing that this is way to obvious, but an unusual vibration in the footpegs was the first indicator for me that my rear wheel bearing was going bad. When I felt that vibration, I gave the bike a "once over" and that is when I found the metal being spit out from the bearing. |

My 08 is like an old lawnmower. I'm doing the new isolator and hopefully a beta patch. Wish my handlebars were smooth as glass. Lubing the heim joints help - silicon spray I reset my tps, also. Helped some. |

Thanks for all the tips. I'm off to find silicone spray. |

I can't tell you how happy I am to see this thread. I thought I was going crazy (or being waaaay too anal). Um, now what's an "isolator"? Thanks! DB |

There are two, the front engine mount with the big rubber do-da with a bolt through its center, and the rear one that looks like two rubber biscuts on the top of the transmission. They like to callem' isolators because they isolate the bike from major vibrations(at least until it breaks). |

What is the cost of the front isolator? I see several folks swapping them out lately. What is the service interval on these? seems that they should be a long life part not something to be swapped out every 25,000 miles. |

I got mine for $66 plus shipping. I get 20% off though. |

The cost on the front isolator is roughly $83.00. I had mine done on warranty. (Which expired last week) The shop rate is 18 minutes to replace. Not bad. I think a person could do it them self in 5 min. |

Ft_b, I'm on my third one. I think it's having an issue from one following reasons, one, simply going over the GVW when two up and the bags are loaded. Next is from hard landings, be it from wheelie slam downs, or off road abuse, also from drag race type take offs. My take on the problem is that the mount functions well, it absorbs and controls vibrations as it should, but it needs a limiter biscuit, bump stop, or maybe even a little shock absorber device, on the top and bottom so that it cannot flex beyond the limit of the rubbers capacity to stretch. |
