When I purchased my 2000 S3 recently, the breadbox for the aircleaner was really pretty ratty. I found a new one on e-bay, bought it, installed it, and threw the old one in the trash. As I was looking at the old one, I noticed that there were two 1/4" allen screws in two 1/4" wellnuts on the bottom of the unit, attached to nothing. I thought it quite strange that the screws would be there, for nothing, but didn't think about it too much, since the new one didn't have any screws, holes or wellnuts. Now I know what they are for, as I just took delivery of a set of fairing lowers from one of our members (thanks, Mike), and realized that they attach to the cover with the screws, which are no longer there. If someone has an S3 with the lowers, or even a cover with the screws and wellnuts still attached, I'd be forever grateful if they could make a tracing of the bottom of the cover, mark where the screws should go, and send it to me....I have no idea, otherwise, where to drill the holes. Contact me at bburland@hotmail.com for the mailing details, or to scan and send. Thanks! DW |

Brad- You'll have to post a pic when you are done. Didn't realize your bike was already black, I'm glad what it cost me to have those lowers painted didn't go to waste. Do you have the PM wheels? I saw a black S3 with the PMs and fell in love with it. When the paint on my tank faded I had to give it a try. I wasn't planning on selling mine at the time that I had the whole bike painted. Mike |

Mike: It's done, and looks really great. I'll post some pix just as soon as the rainy season ends here in NEOhio....which might even be tomorrow. DW |

I've got a black S3T with PMs. Spent months watching for 1, saw it by chance in Ohio and bought it with the wife 9 mos pregnant (Wonder what was going through the dealer's head on that one). Totaled, and bought one a year newer that I had to drive to Chicago for. Foolishly didn't get the lowers for it and think about it every spring/fall. One of these days I've got a set of purple bodywork that I want to put on it. Need a set of covers first, though. |
