Author Message   Racerboy Posted on Thursday, August 22, 2002 - 06:43 pm:        I'll have some suggested rides to hand out at DGMR but it would be a really good idea if someone in each group has a good map that shows roads down to the county level for TN NC and GA...My experience is that once down there it's a hell of a lot easier to find grits and sweet tea and boiled peanuts (ugh!) than it is good maps or beer... They'll come in handy   Racerboy Posted on Saturday, August 24, 2002 - 10:14 pm:        Dave...I'll post one other ride that has to do with waterfalls and also a list of area restaurants and points of interest...A couple of things everyone should try to do is to ride either up to the Santeetlah overlook on the Cherohala Skyway at night and lay back on a picnic table to sky watch or at least up to the overlook on The Dragon at night...Riding The Dragon at night is a trip...The other thing that's really neat to do at night (no, not that!) is to go to Fontana Dam, which is east on 28 past Fontana Village... I've been breaking in and grinding down the Lowrider,trying to save the 207s on the Buell for the Dragon. Guy's if you get the option of places to camp, Deals Gap is the one to be at. Just watching all the bikes roll in and out is a hoot. And for those who havent been to the Dragon be carefull. We had a couple of bad accidents last year. Cindy almost took my head off when we drug the pegs on the KLR earlier in the summer,its not something I'd intentionally do with the boss on back. Thanks, I really appreciate it. -Dave   Racerboy Posted on Wednesday, August 28, 2002 - 01:03 pm:        Dave...I had heard a rumor that the deeps timil on the Blue Ridge Parkway had been reduced to 35 so I called the BRP HQ and a nice lady informed me that was not true...RE LEO's and enforcement...In general expect much less stringent enforcement during the week on both The Dragon, Cherohala and the BRP...But watch out in congested areas all the time and on weekends and holidays... I'm still working on the waterfall thing...Have to eliminate those whose access is too far from the roads... Go Ride It On The Mountains...An awesome ride (and also a long one) would be to hit the three tallest in NC TN and GA...Those would be: Clingmans Dome in TN, Brasstown Bald in GA, and Mt Mitchell in NC which is also the highest peak east of the Mississippi... Broke Leg Falls, here in Eastern KY. An old state park that was abandoned in the late 60s or so. Absolutely awesome now on privare land about 15 miles from my old farm. It used to be a big teen hangout with a dinner and strip motel years ago. Legend says, ah hell ya just gotta see it. Not to mention Red River Gorge with the narrow gauge railroad tunnels you ride through and the Natural Bridges. Anyhow I wont be coming into the Gap until Friday morning but Im off on Monday through, so if any of you guys want to ride or stay the night here in Kentucky let me know.
