Hi Edmbueller
If I read the results so far correctly. James and Estok qualified 3rd and 4th in Thunderbike. Good job!

Crevier has qualified 10th. Is there another 1125R entered in the Superbike competition (#45 in picture above)? Who is this guy?

I wish I were there.

Imona.. for future reference..
A Buell is not "pretty". Girls may be pretty, Buells are cool.

Waitaminit!
There's more going on than I thought! In the ST class Buells qualified 1st, 2nd and 5th! Awesome.

WSBK on Speed channel. I wish I could get this race on TV so I can root for the Buells. So I'm wondering if there are any racers thinking of fielding an 1125R in WSBK. With Crevier and other racers having early success, the 1125R is proving to be a capable race bike. It would neat to see Buell take the world stage in racing even if the 1125R is built to be a comfortable sport bike.

It is just built to be a sport bike! Fortunately it just happened to have a little comfort mixed in.

Crevier has qualified 10th. Is there another 1125R entered in the Superbike competition (#45 in picture above)? Who is this guy?

Not Superbike, but Canadian Thunder - a guy named Peter Donegan who, unfortunately, didn't start.

Estok got a podium at third though and Darren James just missed a podium at 4th.

Buells were 1, 2 (Proulx and Spilborghs) in ST:

So I'm wondering if there are any racers thinking of fielding an 1125R in WSBK.

Unfortunately the new rule structure would make difficult - if not impossible - for the 1125R to compete in WSBK without an homologation bike.

Previous rules allowed Ducati to perform special tuning (similar to what Buell/Rotax will, hopefully, soon do for Crevier). So Ducati was able to get competitive power out of their 1000 cc engine by using exotic components.

The new WSBK rules prevent those kind of modifications but allow Ducati to make their 1098R with a 1200 cc highly tuned engine pushing 180 HP as long as they can sell at least 1000 of the bikes in nearly race trim.

. . . next year (I think) that will go up to 3000 bikes.

Canadian Superbike allows nearly unlimited engine modification (while maintaining stock bore and stroke), so if Buell/Rotax can make a 170 HP engine using exotic components, they can race without selling any minimum number of those bikes.

A previous press release indicated they were working on the new engine, but Freezerburn indicated in his opening post that the engine isn't ready yet (particularly unfortunate considering the lay-out of this weekend's track).

The good news is next year's proposed AMA "Literbike" rules would be very similar to Canadian Superbike, so Buell should be able to compete there.

To go beyond that into WSBK, Buell would have to make and sell 3000 production bikes similar to the 1098R (a very cool prospect, but not likely to happen soon).

But everything they learn in Canadian Superbike and AMA Literbike would be very valuable if they ever choose to make an homologation bike and try for WSBK.

When is that race? I was hoping to come here and see some results. : )

Crevier may not have finished, but his best lap time was comparable to right around the 10th position, which is a sure indication, that the bike and rider are competitive within the top ten on this track as well as the previous track in this series.

It also looks like Estok, James and Geczi riding 1125Rs placed 3rd, 4th and 11th in the Thunder Race.

I spoke with Steve after the race. The bike overheated. He got a mouthful of fuel from blowback. So unfortunate, he wes have a great battle with another racer (sorry do not know who) he would pass him in the carousel, only to watch the guy pass him right back in the more than 1 mile long straight. The Rotax is a great motor, but just not enough ponies....

Big thanks to Ruthless racing, and the Calgary HD/Buell shop and the privateer father son team racing XB's for talking to me and making me feel at home.

That sucks! I hope that they get the new motor in the bike soon! I think that Steve would be nearly unstoppable with 170Hp!

That's too bad.

Can't wait to see what he can do with more power. I wouldn't mind seeing Estok give it a try with the new motor also. He was running 1:20's with his 116 HP 1125R, and those times would have put him at 14 in Superbike.

I'd guess with some more power, he could be competitive in Superbike also.

I'd also really love to see Brett McCormick on an 1125R, but I'm guessing he's tied up with Kawasaki.

Here's one of our bikes at Calgary (ex-Calgary Harley bike). No pictures of my son on the 12s though he had one of the best battles with one of the Ruthless Racing bikes.
#45 is Pete Donegan (Calgary Harley-Davidson), who crashed out in qualifying. He ended up with a badly broken collar bone.
Nice to meet edmbueller at the track, it really is a small world.

check up out at http://thunderracing.ca or on facebook at thunderracing.ca

Here's a very interesting development in the latest round.

Looks like Crevier's trying out some larger pods (or maybe the pods are the same size but the intake is modified, I can't tell).

big pods

Zac should like the bigger pods. Even though Loretta has some nice one's, bigger is always better , in pods that is .
