I see that the ECM SPY cable only utilizes three of the cables. Why can't you use a typical usb a to usb a and just figure out where the three wires go in the conector. There would only be one cable left... MOUSER says the cable described in prev. threads is obsolete |

they went to an "upgraded" design. it looks exactly the same to me. I just got it in the other day. # TTL-232R from mouser. But you are correct, i'd imagine any USB cable would work as long as you know the correct pin location |

Something about the voltages of the USB cable have to be converted over to serial cable voltages. The mouser cable does this very well with some resistors in the small USB plug housing. |

It has to do with what Rando said. It's best to use the specific cable. Something about converting the signal from R232 to standard usb or something. Something about converting R232 I don't think a standard USB cable would work. But deutsch makes one for you sooo... = WIN |

Standard cable won't work. TTL-232R will. |

Simple. PC uses 12 volts, DC. ECM on Buell uses 5 volts, DC. The cable in question takes care of it. |

How hard is it? I took me 5 minutes to throw one together. Compared to any other aftermarket modifications it was a synch. |
