Ok, I did the 620 miles service to my bike and reset the Service counter for the next time. My theft system worked fine in ask the first time I turned the bike off, but now the ask screen comes on for half a second and then turns off. I've tried the other 2 modes and both work fine, but ask still does the same thing. The battery is at 12.7 so that shouldn't be a problem. This only happened after I reset the service screen. Wondering if maybe that has something to do with it. Bug maybe? |

I did my 6200 mile service this weekend and reset the service counter. Next day I had a low battery. First time in months. I say this is definitely raises the question of a possible IC related bug. Questions though, not answers! |

...and to think I almost mashed these buttons on a perfect, electrically related, 1125R, since new in Jan 07... Any insight out there to offset this wonder? |

The only time my battery went dead was 2 days after my 620...I let it sit in the garage. Never done it since. Never had a problem with the security system though. |

I had my battery run down 2 days after I reset my service counter as well. I can't remember if I actually toggled to the exit menu after resetting the counter. I may have just turned the key off after I reset the counter. I suspect that this caused the drain, but I figure I won't know until I reset the counter at 6200 miles......which will be along time away for me. I haven't had any issues with the battery being low since. |

Um, how did this become a battery discussion? This was on the theft system. My battery is showing 12.7 and this is happening. Full charge. |

Not a problem, I just wanted to get back on topic. So, has anyone found a fix for this yet? |

Ryan, I've reset my service counter twice now with no adverse effects. I had a dead battery the day after my first reflash, that was the only occurrence for me. When I took it in for testing at BMC's request a week later, they flashed it again with no problems afterward. Loretta passed 8500 miles yesterday. I don't use the security feature at all. Z |

Well I was having the same problems as Ryan, replaced the battery last night, and it cleared the problems up. Ryan just rolled through here on his way back to Colorado, we replaced the battery and it appears to have cleared up his concerns as well. |

The Buell version of Ctrl/Alt/Del is disconnect/reconnect battery cable. |

I just had the exact same issue with my first service reset. My Theft Setting is no longer an option and flashes on/off to me the same as Ryan's did on key-off. 620 miles service. Are we saying I can just brown-out the computer (disconnect the battery) or that my battery is the culprit and needs to be replaced? |

Never mind. Got anxious and curious and pulled the negative terminal for a few seconds. Reconnected it and I'm back in business. It doesn't appear to be a battery issue, just a confused computer. |

Now I'm wondering if I just disconnected power for a second, if that would have cleared it up? |

My battery is still lighting things off just fine. I hesitate to imply that good batteries have been replaced, since it obviously IS possible that they were bad, but my bike is back to normal with the same battery. I deal with control panels with "intelligent" microprocessors in them, and when things don't go like they should, you follow all the instructions and they STILL don't work, I've found that briefly depriving the little beggars of food with a brownout sometimes makes them come around to my way of thinking again! Like Doerman said: "The Buell version of Ctrl/Alt/Del is disconnect/reconnect battery cable." I'm a believer...and it ain't just Buell! |

Did you try a simple disconnect of the negative terminal on the battery? I just disconnected the terminal, counted to 5, reconnected, and I was back in business with my Theft settings. Mine was in "Ask" mode prior to the service reset as well, and after the service reset the theft setting never "asked", but at key-off "Enter PIN" and timer flashed on the display and immediately blinked off. I tried going into the setup mode to just reset it and restore the setting, but it had no impact. So I tried the battery disconnect after the futile efforts of logic, and it's "normal" again. |
