What would you pay for a 99 x1 in mint condition, low miles. Harley installed race kit. 1 owner. |

Id say the mint cond. warrants $3500.00 if not 4 with goodies added. Not anymore though. |

The low resale value doesn't bother me... buying used is the smart thing to do for someone that wants in. Of course... I bought my Buell new. |

Thanks for the replies. The guy wants $4250. I'll make him and offer, what the hell. For $4500 I can get an 03, but there's just something about the tubed frame that I like. |

The engine is what you want. You can see the engine. that's why you need the bike! It's an engine display rack with wheels. |

"It's an engine display rack with wheels." Heh... hell yeah. I always loved the XL engines architecture. The parallel pushrod tubes, the sweep of the cam case, the assymetricalness of the left and right sides... all that stuff is exotica to a guy raised on 2-strokes and overhead cams. I loved the look of Ironhead Sporties and Shovelhead engines... they look even more beautiful to me. |

Unfortunatley is right, I know of few X1s that are O/E as blue book or other rating guages state. What Happens when you put a 1200 dollar exhaust system or a 500 dollar ECM or a set of wheels or countless other goodies on a "stock" X1? It is still worth no more than "Blue Book" avreage when it hits the market. The shame is when a mid 90s Duck 750 hits the market at 5k and nobody even blinks! It makes a Bueller wanna lose his breakfast! |

How about a 2000 with V&H exhaust with 19k miles? I almost forgot, this one is a limited edition. red with white racing stripe. There's also this 2001 near me, but he seems a wee bit high. Must be that $500 ecm. http://jacksonville.craigslist.org/mcy/730981562.h tml What are valocity stacks? I noticed the lansing hines exhaust as well. I think that bike might be at a dealer of some sort. There's a couple of S1 lightnings near me as well, that are within my price range. Any reason not to buy an s1? I love the look of them. |

If you hear someone say "Vance-n-Hines" and you don't know what your talking about then it comes out lanson hines. and the carbon fiber ham can is NOT a velocity stack(which has no filter, for race purposes only) by ANY stretch of the imagination! Again people , idiots selling something they know nothing about and botching up our market. |

Hey Grovskopa it sounds like an opportunity. When I worked at a dealer in the 80's the Germans were coming over and buying all the Shovelheads they could and resaleing them when they got home. |

Well I got a reply from the guy with the 2001 that has lansing & hines pipe. They are indeed some kind of dealer, but I think they sell boats. I may go look at it and make them an offer if it looks good. I'm sure they got that price from the kbb value, which is of course a joke. |

Being a 99, look for a few things. Look to see if it has the recall replacement rear shock. Measure from the rear shock mount to the front, if it's over 17 inches, then you have the bad one. If it is under 15 inches, then you have the replacement shock. If you have an after market shock, don't worry about the length. Also look at the front rotor. If you have a nine button one, then great. If you have the 6 button one, well... no big deal, they are just not that great but that would be correct for that model year. |

Thanks eboos. That 99 is a little far from me. I'm looking at a 2000 and a 2001, but the 2000 has almost 20k miles. I have a feeling they won't budge on the price of the 01 and i'm not paying almost $5k for it. I still may end up with an 03 if one becomes available. I've noticed some bikes have the air scoop and others have removed it. Is there any downside to removing it, because it looks better without it. |

i tried to sell my pristine S-3, before i modified it, on ebay...it was truly like new with 4k miles and the 3500 reserve was never met... |

What do you think it was worth ...not what the market would hold, but what was it worth to you? Of course now that it's been modified, can it still bring anything more? now that it'll go faster than 35mph, eh 5-O? |

45mph max, thats kind of living on the edge!! and and naturally thats on a closed course with a professional rider.. |

The 99 rear shock wasn't recalled, only the 2k and later was. Mostly because of the lighter flywheel and 2nd gear...put too much stress on it. My 99 still has the O/E Showa with one re-build after 19k miles and it's perfect, no I'll never put it on the race track so I don't need Penske or Works. |
