Well I have a tail to tell you about my bike, I think I had mentioned somewhere in a previous thread how I had wrecked my bike and in that accident the frame was damaged. I got the bike to the dealer and my insurance is and has paid to have it repaired. I am fine with this and up till last week everything was moving along nicely or so I thought. What happened was I called the dealer to see what was going on with my bike. They had told me it would be about a month to fix it and last week was a month. What they told me was that apparently my new frame was damaged in shipping. What they told me was that Buell wouldn't just ship them another frame instead what is happening is the frame has to be sent to UPS were they will analyze it and write a report as to what needs to be done ie fix or replace then it has to go somewhere at Buell were they will do the exact same thing. After both sides have written their reports they need to discuss it with each other to figure out what to do. In other words UPS and Buell need to argue over what to do with the frame and who's going to handle it. The way I see it is that Buell or its vendor messed up and I am being penalized. Its not my fault they messed up the frame, but I don't have a bike because of there screw up. I did call customer service and asked for at least a rush on all this screwing around but was just told I have to wait how ever long it takes. They told be because it has a VIN on it thats why it will take so long. I look at as they messed up not my problem. I just want the bike I am paying for still while it isn't snowing. I should also add that I am in the industry have no connections to help me with this dilemma but I know that it could be handled differently, so I am sort of pissed that they aren't and won't. So in short don't damage that frame it will take forever to get a new one. Like if your going to crash make sure your body is shielding it from damage because it will probably take less time for you to heal then to get the frame replaced. | ||

It doesn't sound like BMC took "too long" to get the frame out, just someone along the way screwed up and damaged your parcel. Could have happened just as easily to a crate of lettuce or a case of soda. And while it does suck because of the VIN aspect, they can't just make a third one for your bike because then they have to write off the damaged one and can't re-use it. The debate is, if it's going to be written off, who pays for it? I'd try going after UPS instead of BMC. They've got deep enough pockets, they may just agree to make it go away.... | ||

Once anything has the legal numbers on it, any changes or replacement is real time consuming! That legal stuff has to follow a certain path and the correct paperwork has to be in place to document EVERYTHING. You would not want two of your VIN motorcycles floating around, would you? I remember a time where the dealer had to cut off the neck and send it back to the MoCo before the replacement could even start to be processed! Maybe you'll be a bit more careful next time you are out there playing "Ricky Racer" since you now know how long it can take to fix your blunder. eh.. umm a little harsh there, aren't you Neil? The poor fella is stuck on account of gummint bureaucracy and a dispute between shipper and BMC. Meanwhile, no bike. I had a similar incident happen with my S1. I moved to another state and in the registration process I found out that the paper VIN did not match the frame VIN. It took a while to work it out. The end result was that I got a new frame with a VIN number matching the paperwork VIN. They take the business of having an unique and traceable VIN really serious! It is a good thing though. | ||

I thought that when a frame was damaged (in the original accident) that most insurance companies declared the bike a total loss, instead of going to the considerable expense of replacing the frame (how's that for a run-on sentence?). | ||

Harsh, no, reality. Reality bites sometimes and, sometimes more than others. I don't know for sure what the circumstances of the accident were but, I feel for him in getting his bike fixed. Reality is still harsh. Doerman, do you really think Kris needs you to defend him? I don't know either. What I do know is that the paperwork is a pain but required. The frame getting damaged is a pain, especially trying to get the right party to step up and take ownership. Until that happens the repair or replacement will not happen. BMC, the Shipper and, UPS will need to get the finger pointing done and then decide what to do. Kris, if you are at Home Coming I'll buy you a cold drink or two for being so "harsh" or, just for being a fellow Buelligan. Time2Work | ||

I learned my lesson last year when my ulysses oil pump broke and took over two month to fix it and then leaked oil, Now I have a spare bike in case something like this happens I will still be able to ride, I feel his pain probably going to miss most if not all of the summer season having nothing to ride. Good luck Chevca maybe look for a cheap buell blast for now. Riding is riding no matter what it is that I am riding, the buell blast is a fun cheap bike and like cars that have a spare tire, which I do not own, I have a spare bike. Mike | ||

I don't entirely know what caused the crash it all happened so fast. But I have been leaning towards a stall. I wasn't going that fast and I do remember it was really quiet right before the crash. I don't know for certain and thats why I haven't been trying to push the issue of a stalling bike. All I do want is to ride my bike, its really a great bike. Comfortable, fast and easy to ride a rare combination. The real hit for BMC is I had about 5 friends that I know where looking at getting a 1125R like mine, with things going the way they are not exactly building a lot of confidence with my friends. I am regretting trading my bolt for this bike. Had I known what a fiasco this would be I would have kept it. As for my insurance repairing vs replacing, I did the numbers on my own just out of curiosity. I am really close to total had the bike been a year old I think it would have been a total loss. I think its primarily because the bike is only a couple months old and demand being what is it right now is keeping resale value up. | ||

When I went down it happened so fast also. I was going around a corner and the next thing I knew I was watching the bike slide down the road in front of me. I go lucky and the right pod protected my frame from any damage. Only major scrapes were on the right pod and the plastic piece on the clutch cover. | ||

Update, I called the dealer Saturday to see what was happening. Apparently my call to BMC customer service helped, what they said was that BMC I guess didn't know about their own process for damaged parts. The short version was my call lit a fire under the right peoples butts and they got me a new undamaged frame fast, they now have all the parts and are working on it now. | ||

They did say they would take care of the updates, but I didn't get a ETA from them. In fact I have told them I would much rather they take their time and do it right rather then rush it to meet any sort of deadline or anything like that. | ||

I have something similar goin on. A LTD backed over the bike 2 days ago in a parking. The whole right side is damaged from forks slightly twisted, scratched up frame and swingarm, every plastic has been gouged or scrathed badly, broke right headlight,broke pegs pass.&drvr,broke clutch cover, broke right mirror&blinker. Why in the middle of the summer did this happen? Will get a total assessment friday. Time to blackout the frame&swingarm and install a full fairing kit, probably the only positive here. | ||
