Danger_Dave said: "Thing is with Bueller squidleyness we're talking about 100mph bikes. True squids are on 200mph bikes." wait- is the definition now being qualified so as to omit Buell riders from squidliness? Now on;y Gixxer and Busa guys qualify? |

Got it: Buellers cannot possibly qualify as squids, but Gixxer and Busa riders do. pass the white hoods along.... |

Uh, Tim (No_Rice) that wasn't a group ride...unless you count Steve, Toni, Kyle and me riding in the mini van with you running chase on your 'bolt as a group. You were doing that in an area where you were not endangering anyone else. As soon as another car showed up what happened? You pulled up behind us and stopped. When you and Michael (my brother) decided to screw around you dropped far enough back from that group that i was afraid we had either lost you, or one or both had wrecked. Squidly behavior DOES happen on Buells, it just usually doesn't happen when and where it puts others in danger in my experience. I'm the first to admit that I am not omnicient btw or I wouldn't have this damned gimpy leg (Message edited by diablobrian on June 23, 2008) |

two kinds of riders: Those who've committed squidliness, and those who lie. Fortunately, most seasoned riders move on. |

Great thread- maybe we should call National Geographic and have them do one of those nature pieces on the species. Following Barker through Gixxer Corner on several passes back and forth was great fun, but I was worried that Smokey the Bear was gonna come walking out of the woods and lecture him on how forest fires get started. They get started by Squids using Titanium on their tentacles! (Make sure your squid ink isn't flammable.) THAT was a fun day. Who's in for TWO in October? I've not looked for a relevant thread- maybe we should start one. Gonna eat some breffix and go run the Cherohala, then maintain school zone speeds thru the Dragon coming home... Friggin state po po, no squidlyness for me! I'm OFF from work, today tomorrow, and Wednesday- who's up for some E. TN riding? |

as per wikipedia: A contraction of: "Squirrely" and "kid" (possibly taken from California surfing culture), or "Squished" and "kid", or "Squished" and "idiot" Also of note: "squidly girl" or "Squirrel" An acronym for: "Stupidly Quick, Underdressed, Ignorant and Dangerous", or "Stupidly Quick, Underdressed and Imminently Dead", or "Super Quick Until I Die" Note: all of these are likely to be backronyms (Message edited by nevrenuf on June 23, 2008) |

as is ofetn the case, wikipedia's contributors are ignorant of a very well-known (within one sport) etymological fact. Squid is a 1970s term for a bad, newbie skier. I recall it very well. I checked with some old ski pros (inc. my mom), and it was, in fact, a an acro for Skier With Wet Dungarees from roughly 1971 or '72 (earlier than I'd thought) |

Some local sport-bikers took one look at my Blast and told me I was no squid. I kept close to them in the curves despite being 100 horses down and so they made me a shrimp. I'm feeling pretty good about that. |
