Not everyone was at the meeting last night so I have a bunch more to get. Heck we have a year, I'll have lots more Buell owners by then. We should, after we pick a date ,have a deadline to have them sent to you. Ride to the edge! Dave HD/Buell Cycle Center 4022 Sergeant Rd Waterloo Ia 50701 1-800-342-7539 ext 14 |

I sent a email to Dave Gees about the RW750 date. He has a website with a great Buell history lesson. He may have something in his "archives". |

court call me saturday I suspect there is no OFFICIAL date at this time. I am sure one will appear soon. There a few dates to shose from, Erik buys the rights to the Barton, Erik quits HD, Erik sells the one and only RW750. The date that makes 1983 the first year of Buell motorcycles is the purchase of the Barton rights. Buell Motor Company came several years later. The first complete bike after buying these rights was in 1984 and the first sale was 1985. I doubt that Erik has the paperwork from this sale but I suspect he remembers some of the signifcant dates involved in the transaction. Dave |

I am not sure is it was 83 or 84 or 85? Of the three I'd go with 84 |

I talked to Leslie st the Pocono Mt. adventure and she is gonna send out letters to all the BRAG chapters and possibly put it in the FUEL mag. I will talk to her more after Labor day when she returns to the office. The Pocono Mt. Adventure was awsome, the whole first day it rained so we ended up driving there through 400+ miles of the stuff, joy. The second day little bit of rain, lot of fog ad if you ever been in the mountians you know the fog factor is massive. Of course the last day today the best weather ever and of course we had to leave. I just got back sat down and loged right on to tell you guys. Of of the many people we met will be sending me pics to post so good night i'm gonna get some sleep. |

I have been digging through the Buell Archives and as near as I can figure, Erik purchased the Barton company in Early 1983. This would mark that start of Buell in my book although Buell Motor Company did not exist at this point. Erik was working for Harley and selling race parts under the name Pittsburgh Performance Products. By this time Erik had already reengineered the Barton Chassis and done much development work on the chassis. I think Erik stopped working at Hrley early in 1984. He did not actually quit until 1 year later as Jeff Bluestein arranged a Leave of Abscence. The first bike bearing the Buell Motor Company livery appeard in June 1984 at Road America. The magazines ran stories on Buell and the RW750 in late 1984 early 1985 with a major feature in I think June 1985 Cycle. the Machinists unioun bought there bike in late 1984/early 1985 not long before the AMA pulled the plug on F1. I look on 1983 as the start because it is the year Erik bought the remains of Barton. Arguments could be made for later dates. |

I wonder what Erik defines as the startup of Buell Motor Company. I'd lean towards his first efforts to build and sell the RW750 commercially. So I agree with Dave. |

Well like the Shirt does say Buell Motorcycle Co. Est 1983 it might have to do with his departure from H-D or the purchasing of Barton. We should revolve it around the dates of 1983 as close as we can unless it is in mid Feburary or some other cold month. |

>>>My vote would be for anything in 1983. I have a Buell shirt that says so! That'd be very safe, and frankly, the precise date pales in comparison to the mission we are on. I can tell you that the day Erik flew to Milwaukee to interview for the job with Harley-Davidson that he left another interview (Lockheed or some aerospace firm) and flew into a very wintery Milwuakee. The idea of a group of folks riding to the factory to commemorate this anniversary would please him, doing something dangerous in winter climes would not. My suggestion would be to create a clearing house and a way for folks to mail signatures there to be affixed to a large card. The entire idea is awesome and Erik would be the first to tell you that the year's have FLOWN by! Court |

Spidey....First, how was the Poconos? I wish I could have been there. I used to live in Western Jersey. I used to go to the Poconos for some quickk R&R. Secondly, did you get a chance to speak with Leslie. Is there something in the works for a Buell event in Wisconsin that we can work this around. Thirdly, I'm looking forward to seeing this through to the end. Thanks to Court & Dave for the additional history lesson. While I know this won't be a suprise to Erik, it should still be a great moment Mennis |

The Poconos were awsome except for the 400 plus miles of rain. I did speak with Leslie and she will be working with me more on this like sending a letter to all the brag chapters, and a print in the Fuel mag. I will be talking with her more after the holiday weekend when she returns to the office. |

I like Court's idea of a place to send signatures. I think that means that he just volunteered to collect them. So how about it, got a PO box or address to send them to Court? |

No send them to me for all non BRAG chapter members also if you have pics to send also that would be awsome. Anthony Barchock AKA Spidey 5415 Cherokee Dearborn Hts, Mi 48125 I'm gonna take the challenge of putting this card together so if any of you Chapter Directors read this before the letter the sheets will be 11x17 for all the group signatures for Individuals it doesn't matter cause it will be a cut an paste. |

Frankly, I'd prefer to organizne and then delegate the collecting (as my house is this year's "Wilson Wearhouse" but I'd be happy to do it. If a volunteer steps up cool....I'll organize. If not, I'll handle it. Court |

Spidey, Thanks for stepping to the plate on this! Let me know if there is ANYTHING I can do to help. Once we pick a delivery date, we'll need a "must be received by" date. I can make a run to your neck of the woods to help put this thing together some weekend. I have relatives in the Rochester, MI area. Mennis |

Cool and you are more than welcome to stay at my place. My room mate is also my assistant director of my chapter so he will be a big help in this also. Hopefully Court and Eric will be able to pin down an exact date if not we can do it a few days before the big party in Milwaulke. Leslie is gonna help with the letters and a post maybe even a article in Fuel. I belive you suggested a town in Wisconsin to meet at. If you could scope out some large meeting area there so we can all stage and ride to East Troy possibly a route to get East Troy from there also. |
