Hey folks,

Getting a rattling clinking noise, more noticeable when the transmission is fast idling or under load in first. Appears like it's coming from under the bike, sounds like glasses or plates clinking together. I would have thought my bulb was loose if I had heard the sound from there. Checked muffler, that's on tight as well. Any ideas? Suggestions?

My first guess would be the primary chain needs adjusting.

I'm noticing some transmission slip (at least I think I am) in first. Would that also be primary chain-related?

Is that a manageable job for an inexperienced hand with a service manual?

The primary chain won't slip, it either works or it's broken.

If you got the tools and service manual, anything related to the clutch or transmission can be serviced fairly easily yourself.

You might have a spring plate issue, it sounds like.

Meaning a clutch issue?

Bike unsafe to ride?

Check the chain and the tensioner then report back to us what you find.

Was not tensioner/chain related--it's the muffler guts, the core is making the ringing/clinking noise.

So, now, replace or repair my race muffler.
