Went to pick up the bike from the dealer saturday and found the battery voltage low again. It took about 4.5hr to charge up at 2 amps. Rode it 40 miles that night and the next morning it was down to 12.4v again. By 8 pm the Battery Bug was beeping and the voltage was at 11.9v. Checked and found the draw. It was 178mA draw. Now I'm waiting to hear from Buell and the dealer again. I could not duplicate the draw after the fuse was put back in. I think this is the dead battery issue that some of us are having. I'll keep you posted on what happens. |

What fuse was it? |

It was the key switch fuse. My bike should be fixed soon. Buell is sending out the new part. Will be nice to not have dead batteries any more. |

what is the actual part that is guilty of the draw? |

Buell had my dealer replace my Ignition Switch a couple of months ago and I have not had any low voltage since. At the same time, Buell had the Dealer replace the Mirrors to see if that would help them from blowing back. I mention this only because the Dealer called me just three days ago looking for the parts they had taken off. I fear that Buell did not get that ignition switch to study. Here's the Link on that thread |

The part that I found had the draw on my bike was the instrument cluster. It was very intermittent and hard to duplicate. I'm not saying that all bikes with a draw will be the cluster. They should be checked at the dealer to confirm the source of the draw. |

was just curious what was causing YOUR draw on the battery. I have not had any problems since my ECM was sent to BMC......re-flashed or replaced...dealer wasn't sure which was done |

Bobup, the cluster was the draw on my bike. It would run the battery down if the bike sat a couple of days. It has only happened to me 3 times that I know of since I've had the bike. The last time it happened at the dealer while it was there overnight. They had just done the reprogram for the charging problem and tightened the starter relay nuts. I went to get the bike and the voltage was 11.9V and the battery bug was beeping. I thought that the dealer might have run the battery down doing the reprogram but found out they had it on the charger while the program was done. I charged the battery back up and rode it that night. The next day the voltage was low again. I tested for parasitic draw and found the cluster was the draw. After the power was disconnected it was normal again. It was very hard to duplicate on my bike. I just don't want every person that had a dead battery telling their dealer that they know their cluster is bad just because of my experience with mine. They should be checked out by the dealer to confirm the problem. |

My 11 just started to have the dead battery issue (It's the first time since it's been off the battery tender that I've been away from the bike for a week). So the bike sat for a week, and the thing was stone dead when I tried to take it to work the other day. I turned the key and no lights, no pump cycling, nothing. It's been on the charger since Thursday. Last night (Friday) the tender indicated full charge. So I took it out for a quick ride around town. I noticed that all the lights pulse now, with the RPMs. Also, after about 3.5 miles the battery light came on again. I got it home and put it back on the charger. It's as if the bike isn't charging the battery any more. I also noticed that my surging is back. When I had my first service, the dealer did the TPS reset, and it's been running well since then. I'm not sure if it's actually that the surge is back, or if it's just that the voltage isn't right, so the EFI is having a fit. Is this behavior normal for the 'battery drain' issue? I've got to do a little more searching on here, but this was the first battery issue thread I found. thanks for any input. I'll try the switch thing tonight and see if I can identify it as the problem. (Message edited by silenc3r on June 21, 2008) |

Silenc3, I think there are 2 issues with these bikes. One, charging system problem. I have never had a charging problem. My volts are always up over 13.5V. It sounds like you might have a charging system problem. My battery light has never came on while the bike is running. Two, parasitic draw which will run the battery down while the bike is off. This is the problem that I had. Sometimes when the bike was shut off there was still a draw. You would know that something had happened the next day when the battery was dead or very weak. You may even be blessed with both problems if you have my luck! |

The charging system problem I had was the voltage dropping below 12.5 (net drain) at idle when the CT was somewhere above 185 degrees. The reflash solved this problem as it monitors the voltage and CT and increases the idle as necessary to prevent the net drain situation. |
