Hey guys...I thought I would tap your collective brains and see if you could help me out. I work with a guy, all he likes to do is bash Buell/HD. He is a big Euro-type biker....you know the type...spotlessly clean 3 year old BMW 1200 GS with 800 miles on it and a special edition Ducati...SO help me come up with some good one-liners to attack his insults and accusations of Milwaukee muscle. I'm sure you'll come through. P.S. I love all his matching gear for each bike too... |

There must be a reason why all of the bikes are older and low mileage. Probably doesn't want to ride too far b/c he is afraid of them breaking. Yeah, I know those are nice bikes too... |

i just ask him how many miles he puts on his garage queens. I bought my bike to ride, not for it to sit in my garage. Typically your not going to change someones views like that though. |

Take him out on your local curvy road and ride him into the ground. When he comes in all huffing and puffing from trying to catch up, tell him he rides like a douchebag and that he should keep his non-rider, poser opinions to himself. I had a similar situation with a friend that ChadHargis and I both ride with. I had a minor lay down the first time we rode together when I had 600 street miles under my belt and proceeded to continually give me shit about it (even up until our last ride). On our last ride, I rode him into the ground on street and dirt. I told him that when he can keep up with me he can give me shit about what happened two years ago but until then he needed to keep his mouth shut. |

One item comes to mind; it seems that most Buell riders have the capacity to respect and enjoy the majority of other motorcycles. We don't have the need to elevate our bikes by lowering others, we KNOW what we have a great American Bike. I guess one question that needs answering is if BMW's and Ducati's are the one and only bikes to have then why do so many European's OWN and LOVE Buell's? Allow me to start a list: 1 Price 2 Reliability 3 Torque 4 Handling 5 Braking 6 Acceleration 7 Low Maintenance 8 American Made |

He may not ride his Beamer much because he is afraid the final drive will start leaking and the bike is out of warranty. He may not ride the Duc much because he is saving up for the next general service and he don't want to get there to fast. I had more miles on my XT the first 3 days I owned it than that fellow has total on the Beamer. Tell him don't worry about the final drive leaking it is just part of the experience. |

\"Ridin a beemer to me is like gettin a hummer from a sissy good until someone sees you" 800 mi eh? and a special edition Duc? This guy obviously enjoys HAVING a motorcycle rather than RIDING a motorcycle. Motorcycles are supposed to be ridden not sit in a garage and look nice. It's not a frickin GARAGE ORNAMENT! What KIND of special edition Ducati? Ask him when was the last time he took it out an RACED it? This sounds suspiciously like CCS (Corvette Compensation Syndrome). Thats where some old guy with a lot of money goes through the "I'm balding and can't reeeeally get it up anymore, mid life crisis and goes out and buys a new Vette. Then they spend all their time shining it instead of driving it the way a Corvette begs to be driven. Only this is the bike version,it comes in several flavors. I know a guy who got divorced recently and went out and bought himself a chopper worth about $60k, it sits in his garage and he rides it around the block twice a week. Tell him to not let his mouth write checks his ass can't cash. Then go out and ride yours like ya stole it from him! LOL |

Sigh i have a neighbor like that. He has a Ducati 1098S, R1, and Repsol CBR1000 all very modified, all under 1000 miles on them, and all at least a year old. He rags on my Buell all the time, and yet he won't ride w/ me on the backroads, I think he knows because I'll embarass him |

when people drop that much coin on a bike, they believe its the best bike out there. IE. harley guys too. let them think what they want and enjoy your ride. |

Hey, the only reason you are getting pissed is because your are letting him piss you off. You are giving him the power to influence your feelings and attitude. Take a page from reverse psychology. People confront you because they themselves want to be confronted by you! Turn it around on him and tell him "BMW and Duc's are great bikes. I don't care what people ride, just as long as they ride." Let him talk all he wants -- don't give him the power to control your feelings. |

800 miles on a three year old bike. He must only ride it to put in gas. I seems alot like playing ball. The ones shootin off there mouth, are usually pretty good but the ones who just sit back and laugh at them are the ones you back up on in the field. They know what they got. That is the key. Does this guy know the lineage of a Ducati. Does he know the history? Naa, squid for sure. |

BMW - Did you just scrub a peg or was that your cylinder! ABS? I have that in my wifes Buick Regal. BMW the new P*^sy-magnet! If you are a P*^sy, come ride a Beemer. Nice BMW . . . so your retired. Ducati - Ducati's 1098 . . . you are only one penis measurement from owning perfection! Well you can chose from red, or red, or limited edition . . . RED. Now if I buy the S, I get? A lean wallet, a sock to stuff in your pants, and the bike that Ducati should have made. Buell - own the curves! Ducati - own the payments . . . the bank owns your bike! But if you friend/associate likes the bikes so be it. I drooled over a 999R till my wife smacked me. Ducati makes beautiful bikes and BMW are as refined as any other. But bashing a Buell (or any other bike) just shows me that he is questioning the price he paid vs. the fun you rub in his face! |

"Buell haters.....they're everywhere!!! get used to it.....if you were on a BMW, you'd be confronted by a BMW hater, any of the Jap bikes...you guessed it, a Jap bike hater. It's human nature to hate on things and voice your opinion about it. If he starts in on you again about what you ride, just punch him in the nose and tell him to eff off. Gaurantee he'll never say anything else to you about the Buell! |

If I cared what people thought about what I rode, how I ride it, what I do to make it my own, well I have said too much already. Tell him "You can tell me what bike to ride when you buy my next one, other wise I am gone riding and you can go back to doing what you do with yours." There is no real difference between endless polishing on a garage bike and masturbation. Neither is ever as fun as the ride. Was that my outside voice? Lord forgive me and the Starving Pigmees down in New Guinea (insert pic of Barry the Bueller Guy from Halloween, it never loads from home) |

Huh -- yeah I run into some people who talk smack about my Buell. Here are my three stock responses: "No 6th gear? Gee, you're right, I guess I can't cruise the highway at 160mph or get my RPMs to 8000 for usable torque. What ever will I do?" "You know the nice thing about having a Harley engine in my Buell -- I don't have to sell a small child to pay for any new parts and I can do the work myself." "I hate squids, and Buells are squid repellent -- problem solved." Bottom line, haters are rarely riders and I don't mind not being friends with with wankers who run their mouth more than they run their bikes. I do know that more people have asked me about my bike and stopped to look at it than any bike I or any of my friend's have ever owned, aside from one other guy who owned a '76 Triumph that was all cafe-racered out and in mint condition. I think riders appreciate a well made machine, regardless of type or configuration or maker. The ones that don't are best ignored. Bottom line -- ask him how he would know, since he doesn't ride. Owning a bike doesn't count -- then tell him your friends will beat him up if he keeps talking smack about our bikes -- bet you Buell riders will kick BMW riders arses. Seriously, don't sweat it -- ride what you love, ignore the dips. City, you ride a bike??? I thought that was just a ball of mud with orange bits mixed in! I don't take things so seriously. I have found comfort in being a nonconformist most of my life. Buell has given me mechanical middle ground. |

Consider the source: Remember that the difference between a porcupine and a BMW is that the BMW has only prick on it, but it's a big one. |

So what? If you need to go into a bar and defend your choice of beer because of what some a**hole said, you need to move to a different stool, not attempt to defend what you're drinking. ...unless you just enjoy barfights. |

I haven't ran into many Buell haters. Then again I live 30 miles from East Troy. When I do I will be prepared with the following: "You don't have to ride my bike, you don't have to buy my bike, but you can't stop looking at it." George |

Set his BMW on fire. "hey your bike is on fire!!, muhahahaha" I'm j/k. If I were you I wouldn't bother to have an adult pissing contest with him. get used to it.....if you were on a BMW, you'd be confronted by a BMW hater, any of the Jap bikes...you guessed it, a Jap bike hater. It's human nature to hate on things and voice your opinion about it. If I cared what people thought about what I rode, how I ride it, what I do to make it my own, well I have said too much already. Good stuff. IMO, you should just tell him, you don't care, nor will you ever care, talk all the smack he wants, it won't make you sell and conform to Euro or Jap like most motorcyclists. Or you could just set his bike on fire. No more bmw. Problem solved! (Message edited by mr2shim on June 20, 2008) |
