I went to my dealer today. They have no idea about a ECM update, nothing, they looked & looked, I even brought them a print out of several the the threads here on Bad Weather biker. They just said they would continue to look into it. I set up a date July 12th, to drop the bike off under waranty & have the fuel mileage looked into. The bike has 2500 miles on it now, I have been keeping a mileage log & all my gas receipts since 1700 miles with an overall average MPG of 31MPG. The best I got was 37 on a freeway trip, the lowest was 29MPG. Ill let them sort it out. In the meantime Ill ride my Vespa P200 or Honda ruckus, hell even my toyota pickup is getting about 24 & it does not require premium fuel |

When they plug the bike into the digital technician and enter the VIN, it will indicate if an ECM update is available if you ask it. Mines a 12s made in October 07. One is available for it. Additionally, Buell customer service said there was one also. I didn't want to waste my dealers time if one wasn't available. |

Just hooked up my cable to the laptop and pulled the current tune off the bike. No trouble codes reported. I've already compared the '08 SS tune with an '06 race tune from the UK and it actually looks more aggressive than the race tune. We'll see what the dealer changes when/if they flash the bike tomorrow. BTW, mass kudos to the guys that have worked on ECMSpy. That is one seriously refined piece of software, given the fact that its open distribution. Good job, guys. |

5.5k on my 08TT. Avg 38 mpg highway. Reflash is available, doesn't make any difference as far as I can tell after 500 miles. |

So I got my bike back from the dealer and they said that there's a flash available, but only for the 1125R. I guess I'll just have to live with the mileage. I guess there's always the possibility that the urban riding could be aggravating the mileage. |

Several here have had their XB's flashed. The dealer doesn't know what their talking about. |

Yeah, I hear that, but the guy who did the work at the dealership knew about Badweb, rides an XB himself, and double checked with Buell apparently. So let me ask you guys this... how many miles or kilometers are you folks getting to your tank? I've got an SS with the 4.4 gallon tank. |

I got just under 40mpg on the last tank through my 08 12R. I'm currently sitting at 522 miles. I'm sure I could squeeze a good bit more out of it. |

I have an appointment on July 12th for warranty on exessive fuel consumption. Maybe then they will plug it into the digital tech & see about the flash & whatever else it may go through to see what the issues it. I currently have 2500 miles on the bike, changing the oil tomorrow. By he 12th, the bike should have about 3300-3500 on it, as I have a couple small weekend trips planned before then. So we shall see.. My last ride the girlfriend & I rode out east from here 156 miles straight, highway & backroads, no traffic averaging 65mph. Fuel light came on at 148 miles, thats about 40MPG. This has been the absolute best mileage on my 08 Ulysses, but on the open road with a cool breeze & no traffic, she should be doing so much better. My old triple triumph tiger got 50+MPG in this type of riding & it was heavier, taller & ran a 6000RPM on the freeway... so this for my Buell makes no sense. I just had the tiger last fall, so ethonal & all those theories for the Uly just do not add up! |

I have consistently got 48 mpg on my 08 XT and now have a little over 1200 miles on it. I wonder if some bikes are over filled with oil and are causing the engine to sump and thus causing poor mpg. Just a theory. |

I'm now at 3,900 miles on the odometer. My last tank of fuel got me 46 mpg. So it has gone up. Don't know if it was the new flash on 5/7/08, or just getting broke in better. YRMV |

I have a '05 Firebolt 12R. Mileage when stock and with factory race kit has always been in the 48-52 MPG range. Mix of highway and traffic with me on board at 220lbs. Very little "low rpms shift early" either! |

Mine is jumping around. Earlier I was getting 47mpg, but on my last fill-up I got 36mpg. Bike is an '08 XB12R w/ 550 miles on the odometer and it runs great. |

They reflashed my ECM, admitting that there was an update after hooking it up to the digital tech. I noticed that it runs a bit better and the throttle is a bit crisper. I'll have to cruise around for a while to determine whether there's any fuel economy benefits. A shout out to everyone who's voiced their experiences regarding a reflash here. I printed out a copy of this thread and highlighted the '08 owners with issues in order to convince the stealership. Once convinced, it was all good. |

I have an 08 9sx and I'm getting 30-40 mpg at 1750 miles on the od. My best so far was 41 mpg on a highway trip. When I'm just riding around town I'm getting just over 30 mpg. I run my bike between 3000 and 3500 rpm most of the time. |

To Werewulf: FWIW, both of my Buells, and my truck, were ALL running crappy a week ago. And all got really poor mileage on the tank of gas they were running. All 3 have been re-fueled, and are getting the mileage and performance they did before the problem. And all gas came from the same station. I suspect a bad batch of gas to the service station. Not much solace, I know, but perhaps something to consider. |

Totally off topic, it's interesting (and good) to see a host of '08 owners popping up. Sucks you guys are having issues, though. ~SM |

So, I spoke to a factory rep. from Buell last week who was visiting my dealer. She said there is no new ECM map (sorry folks); took my story and info. down and said she would talk to the engineers and get back to me. I told her about badweb and the vast array of people having the same problem as well. I'll post if I hear anything. |

I have a 08xt and so far have averaged 41mpg not bad but was looking for a little more. i have a friend with a buell tt and he gets 48-53 (city) on a very regular bases. i only have 320 miles so hopefully the mileage will increase as the bike breaks in more.I am a little amazed that there is such a difference given thats there all the same engine. I would have thought Buell would of dialed the engine in a little better then that. I understand that the estimated mileage is a little over blown but for buell to say the xt gets 59 highway and for me to get 41 thats to big of difference to just call a programing (dt)error. |

I have verified that the binary they flashed my '08 Ss with is totally different from the one it came with stock. I even sent the new binary file to the folks at ECMSpy. The new one is BUEYD0L4 03-20-08. |

My '08 XB12Ss with about 1,800 miles on it is getting between 45 and 50 mpg on it now. Best ever was 51 mpg, and only one time. Average is around 47 mpg with 70% freeway cruising at around 70 to 75 mph average, rest is urban cruising in the 35 to 50 mph range and a red signal lights every mile or two. I weigh in at 200 lbs and am 5'9". Only "performance" mod is breather hose rerouted to a "catch can". When new, the bike was in the upper 30 mpg range, so it is getting better. Still, I want more! I commute about 80 miles a day. |
