Anyone turn a Blast into a Off Road Thumper? Would seem like an interesting project? Any thoughts? |

Many have thought about it but I havent heard of any actually completing a project (maybe EZ has). Unless off course its flat track. The rear swingarm greatly limits tire usage so its not as easy as just bolting on knobbies. |

Yeah, I thought about the Deere Blast when I posted. Not so sure its serious off road as much as just a 'show' piece. |

Thanks Looks like it might be do-able. Need to look at changing wheels to something more off road friendly, loose the extra weight, and see what developed |

motomule has built at least one blast powered street tracker that I would be comfortable on dirt and gravel roads |

I think about this "problem" a lot and wonder if I should just buy a second bike for my off-road excursions. I'd rather be able to modify the blast, though. I wonder how difficult it would be to stick the rear swing arm from a Uly, and the front fork from the Uly on the Blast? Well, the front fork is probably overkill, but some kind of height extension on the front would help. Of course if you go to the trouble of adding Uly parts to the Blast then you might as well spend the money on the Uly anyway, which is a resource I don't have much of right now. Heck, if Clint Eastwood could ride a chopper on a dirt trail we should be able to ride our Blasts on one! |

Very realistic movie, they don't make 'em like that today! |

Sandra Locke was not too realistic as a Hooker (in my opinion) but hey it's a movie. |

Well, you could cut your own rear tire from one that fits. The biggest problem with the Blast off road is that it plows and digs in in any soft stuff. Front tire is way too small, but the front seems more readily adaptable for a bigger wheel. |

Someone (Crossroads maybe) had a set of Triple clamps that would allow the purchaser to mount different front forks/wheel/brakes. May still be an option for the front |

you know you can put knobbies on anything and make it muck in the mud The set from the green John Deere one seems to work well. But to do it right, the front end needs to come up and out, the rear needs to be lifted and the bars need to go to a more traditional wide MX style. I am working on a Blast/XR hybrid for proof of concept, should be done by August 1. All parts are in, I just need the time to do the conversion. watch the build over in Rooster |

http://www.badweatherbikers.com/buell/messages/270 985/328135.html?1214031226 Is this the thread we should watch? (there seemed so many 'off road' Blast threads) Yeah the JD Blast looks more show than go and there's still no way a knobby fits on the back of it without swingarm mods!(and I am just envious somebody built it first!) |

Yep, thats the one, I am probably going to pi$$ off the Buell purists with the build.... but then they did dis me on the dirt bike. (and YES I am still grumpy about that) So it will be stock honda motor, frame, geometry, but Buell Blast tank, seat, rear fender, frame supports, hand controls & bars, XB12Stt eagle beak and side plates, CityX hand guards, and custom lighting to make her road legal. Build, purchase and conversion with repairs should be under 1000 pricetag. So it will be more of a mock up of what could have been. If I come up with a cheap riders edge Blast, I may redo another with more Blast components. |

Well you wont piss me off, but why not just leave it as is, throw Blast stickers on the tank and call it a Buell? Sorry, dont much see the point as it would hardly be a Buell or a Blast. Kinda like buying a Road Star so everyone thinks you have a Harley. The title will still say Honda! |

I have tried to resist yappin' off about a dirt Blast...but I claim the old fart's rule that lets me say what I want...don't be offended...but the engine is WAY too heavy for any kind of serious offroad use...a blast in the dirt would most likely be like the absolute worst "offroad bike" I have ever ridden...a 1970 Honda SL350...I applaud the desire for a dirtBlast...but it's just gonna get your leg broke...unless you custom build a bunch of parts from unobtainium or solihelium...Dang, I shouldn't have brought up the solihelium...now "they" are gonna come after me |

Not unlike the response Erik Buell got when he said he was going to build a sportbike around a Sportster engine. If we have to explain, you wouldnt understand..... |

WWBD??? Take existing parts that are easily available, modify to your needs, blow everyone's mind in the process. I think that a good starting point would be the big wheel threads. Once you get the swingarm and front forks, then one could focus on what everyone wants more of, power/rpms/better shifting. I don't think weight is too big a deal, my little bro's 82 KDX450 is a friggin tank and he goes about everywhere I do on my comparativly much more modern KX250, granted after a days riding I feel less like I went 10 rounds in the ring. Just thinking with someone elses budget... |

My old brain automatically thinks motocross when the word dirtbike comes up...as I understand it, blast based shorttrackers are very successuful...and on second though a blast based bike would do ok on fire road type trails...as long as they are pretty smooth.. |

One time, Long ago, Far away, I saw Juggalo94 jump a Blast over a big pile of dirt that was blocking the entrance/exit to a very old rickety bridge that crossed a river separating Michigan from Wisconsin(Heavy on the SIN) He put a little too much throttle on the Blast and it got airborn, the only problem was, there was a very large car sized rock where he was supposed to land. He broke nothing but a turn signal lense when he laid it down. It was kind of funny, it was like he suddenly got a death wish for dying on a rock. |

Come to think of it, didn't Evel Kenievel jump the crap out of modified full size Harleys? Imagine the undertaking you'd have on your hands if you were trying to offroad a sportster, or worse a dynaglide. This is looking more and more doable. |

There are several off road sportsers I know and have pics of - so it is surely doable on a Blast! EZ |
