like the title states>?? i know its just a matter of time before i lay my bike down, and the upcoming track days ill be attending will only make the possibility greater.. so whats the stat on them? i know you can stick on the XB sliders ... but your going to chew apart the front cowls before you touch your frame!! ideas?? solutions?? thanks all! | ||

I think that's the idea; the pods meant to absorb impact in the event of a crash. Get some axle sliders from dark horse and go racing. Anyone know the price of new pod covers? | ||

I believe the pod covers are only like $55 each. That's another thing I love about Buell...inexpensive parts. | ||

I have a need for a new right side pod cover....please tell me where I can pick these things up for $55. (Story with pictures to follow....I promise) ....but I'd also get some bar end sliders. | ||

Go to a Harley/Buell dealer... they usually don't stock these things, but it should arrive in about a week... this was my experience (replaced my left side pod recently). You'll have to transfer some fastener hardware from your old pod to the new one. | ||

www.chicagoharley.com has them for 45 dollars but then you have to pay shipping, I bought a right side pod 45 dollars and translucent kick ash air box cover for 168 and shipping was only 15 dollars but took awhile to recieve them, get the part number and you just type it in and it tells you the origanal price and there price then you can decide if you want to wait or get it fast. | ||

oh yes, I have already replaced one of my cowls!! I learned how grabby the 1125 brakes are compared to my s2 thunderbolt at the cost of the right side. Its nice to know that they are reasonably priced, I paid 55 for mine in Reno, but there has to be a better way!? | ||

A better way? Don't lay your bike down. Or ask your buddy with the R6 what it cost to lay down and then $55 becomes pretty freakin' appealing!!!! | ||

Oh yeah as far as crash protection the pod covers do their job, and really it's dirt simple to replace them. Ask me how I know. | ||

i agree that dumping any of the big 4 will cost quite abit more in just fairings alone... PLUS frame sliders are pretty expensive too! i really dont mind replacing the front cowls from time to time due to road rash, but im concerned about the stuff that THEY protect! i would not be a happy camper if i squished the radiators, plumbing or overflow tank that hides behind the cowls! | ||

I believe the pods have a spring action to absorb some of the energy. From all appearances, the pods work as intended. Realistically, if the impact is severe enough to go thru the pods to the underlying parts, there wouldn't be alot you could do to prevent that no matter what protective bits you have. | ||

another thought would be to take a safety course. that'll help save the expense of the pods and medical insurance co-pays. just a thought. | ||

Funny you should mention that. I scratched up my pod at the MSF Advanced Course (doing quick stops, or, in my case, quick drops)! LOL For that, I sorta blame my instructor, who convinced me to try four fingered grip stops when I had been riding for a few months with a two-finger style (more than adequate to stand the 1125R on end)... you learn. Saw an 1125 go down last fall on the track (hi side) hard enough to break the riders collarbone (she ended up OK...relatively) and all it needed was the rad cover, a lever, and a brake footpeg. They crash very well (not that it's recommended). I believe that bike was back on the track inside half an hour. | ||

The stand is a Trackside stand from Cycle Gear @ $109. The airbox came from American Sport Bike, but will not fit with the stock inner airbox lid. Luise is close on the name. | ||
