My local gas station owner informed me that he was told by his supplier to expect $5/gal gas by the 4th of July. I figured it up and at $4/gallon it will cost me $384-416 round trip and at $5/gal it would be $480-$543, assuming 15-17 mpg. I feel bad for those of you driving those 10 mpg pickups, etc. Anyone know the price of gas in wisconsin? (Message edited by ferris_von_bueller on June 13, 2008) |

Some of us have to if our spouses don't see the point of a trip like that (from Maryland) on the back of a 95 S2....and with fuel prices, it ain't worth chasing the truck on the bike "just to ride". Guess I'll get a transfer tank here in MD and fill 'er up with diesel before I leave. At least the truck can self-feed, lol. $5 / gal already for diesel around here, but if I keep out of the boost the truck turns mid-20s on the highway. Could be worse, I suppose. |

I'm just yanking chains. I rode to homecoming last year, then rode to almost every event in someone else's car because I was tired of being on the bike. Wish I could make it this year. You all have a good time. |

I dont understand why diesel is so expensive. Isn't it easier to refine? |

True it is the low end in production. But now they have to remove the sulpher for road use. Non highway (heavy equip. can use off road fuell) The idots in Washington dont have a clue what they are doing. |

I don't understand why diesel is so expensive. Isn't it easier to refine? Look at how much stuff runs on diesel.... the demand for it must be unreal. Trucks, trains,Ships, almost every piece of heavy equipment... the military.... the list goes on and on... |

Due to time constraints, we have to leave Tues July 1 at 6pm. We will be driving all night and all day Wed to arrive Wed nite at a decent hour so we will be somewhat refreshed for Thurs... What really sucks, is I figure we will put less than 200 miles on the bikes while we are there. Looks like the only days we are riding are Thurs to the Factory and wherever else and Saturday to the races... Friday is track day and we will need to bring all our crap to the track. the 25th only happens once. Expensive, but worth it. Safe travels to all! |

"But now they have to remove the sulpher for road use. Non highway (heavy equip. can use off road fuel) The idots in Washington dont have a clue what they are doing." Exactly. What difference does it make. Sulphur is sulphur......whether it's burned/spewed on the freeway or the construction equipment that is working right next to the freeway....... |

Diesel is the most popular (most used) fuel in the world. Trucks, trains, ships and cars (esp in europe and asia) all use diesel. A big factor here is the US is the EPA. In the last few years or so we went from std diesel, to low sulfur diesel and just a year or two ago to ultra-low sulfur diesel. The extra steps to "clean up" costs money. Since everything you buy was on a truck at some point, everyone is effected by higher fuel costs. Thank you greenie weenies and EPA!! |

Yep,was originally planning on taking my truck with the ROC S-1 and Terrys Bonneville Blast along with a couple to ride. Did the math and am now flying in and a car--it was just too damn expensive. |

the 25th only happens once. Expensive, but worth it. It would be cheaper if my wife, my daughter and I came in a car. We'll be riding a Uly, a Lightning Long and a Blast. I figure we'll be spending close to $1,000.00 on gas alone. When we add in lodging and food, it's going to put a serious hurt on our finances. However, we wouldn't miss this at twice the cost. |

Yep, been thinking about the fuel cost for that trip, trailering two bikes 0ver 1200 miles one way, for many reasons, time being a main one, Figure about $1000.00 in fuel also, But it is the 25th!!! Still planning on being there!!! |
