My family and I were spending the afternoon in the basement waiting out the latest storm and HOLY CRAP the entire river filled up the basement in about 5 minutes flat. My wife being the organized person that she is had some bags packed for us so we tossed the twins in the Jeep with 3 dogs and away we went thru the water rapidly flowing into the garage thru the 5 inches at the end of the drive way. That was around 1700 today and it has done nothing but rain since. I hope the sandbags hold up. The real test will be in couple of days when all the rain up river makes it's to us. We had crested at 11.5 feet above flood stage(a new record which I am sure wont last long) Will have to wait until morning to see the damage. I can hear more thunder as I type, IT HAS TOO END SOON! Hope everything turns out OK for you. The important thing is your family and pets are OK. Material stuff is just what it is, STUFF. Stay in good spirits while you wait to go back and see the damage first hand. Don't get too stressed, you have the important things with you. | ||

hope you and your family are alright and sorry to hear about the house. i try to keep an eye on what's going on up there because my daughter moved up between appleton and manatowoc and i'm seeing all the misery everyone is going through in the midwest there. my prayers are with you and everyone else having to deal with this. stay safe. | ||

Thanks all! Will have to wait and see. Road still closed to the house. Flood insurance is required to get a loan where we are...I wanted to get rezoned but the wife said forget it...I hate it when she is right! So in the mean time we are hanging out at the Super 8. Good news is that it is suppose to be dry for a couple of days. Thanks again for all the well wishes! Michael | ||

I hate it when she is right! I'm glad she won on this issue. We saw too many people loose everything when Hurricane Floyd flooded our area. The important thing is that you and your family are safe. Keep us posted and we'll pray for the flood waters to go down quickly. | ||

We've had 11" of rain since last week here in SE Wis. Alot of water, poo and fish laying around. My girlfriend ran over 3 carp this morning on her way into work. A Dells area lake emptied in 10 minutes washing homes away. Lake Delton decided against going with Federal flood insurance thus leaving their residents unable to gain personal flood insurance. People with million dollar homes are already lining up to file law suits. And guess what? more rain in the forecast here all weekend long. They aren't predicting heavy stuff, but we really don't need any more water. | ||

Finally made it out to the house today. Was pleasantly suprised at the lack of major water damage. Just some mud and water left in the basement but still the water rises. I drove the Jeep thru 8in of water at the end of the drive way and sat in awe of the water level. The garage may be total loss. The most amazing thing is that when got to the house which is on a County Hwy which is supposed to be closed to all but those who live on the Hwy. I found a lifted Ford 4X4 with two Rednecks in the bed, one with a handgun the other with a bow shooting carp in my front yard. I was not happy, they quit when I drove by(I was not about to approach them I am sure that there was beer involved somewhere) When I came back they were gone but left me the dead carp to deal with. | ||

Moved back into the house on Sunday what a nice father's day. My family is safe, the house is a little wet but otherwise OK. Have engineers coming in next week to check for structural damage to the basement. Had water right up to the sandbags. Now that the water has gone down a little, the smell is BAD. I consider us lucky, it could have been a lot worse. Thanks for all the well wishes! Michael | ||

Glad to hear all is well. As the wife said, we here in Eastern North Carolina have seen two floods due to Hurricanes Fran and Floyd. The most important part is that you and the family are safe. The rest can be replaced. I am glad to read that you are back in the house today. |
