Hi I'm the proud new owner of a 2006 Ulysses in Barricade orange. Has anyone ever cut down the stock seat to make it lower? I was thinking of buying the low seat but if I could just get out the old electric craving knife I could save a couple of hundred bucks. Sorry no pics I'm at work and forgot my camera | ||

I remember some people do that, but it was a while ago, and might be tricky finding those old posts. But the '07-'08 seat, which is much lower than the '06 seat is only about $100. It was the optional '06 low seat that was about $200. | ||

IF it is $100 or so for the standard I think I'll get one.I know I can flat foot with that seat. The low seat is I think $225 on the Buell site. (Message edited by sprintex on June 12, 2008) | ||

You can just pull the staples out about half way back, peel back the seat cover and cut some material from the underneath side. If you're really lazy like me you can just cut the material off the top but you'll see it through topography through the seat cover when you are done. The problem is that the plastic part of the seat is so wide even if you cut away almost all the material it's still so wide it still spreads your legs way too far!   | ||

Steve, I have 07 Uly and I'm 5'7" tall with a 30 inseam. first thing I did was take my lower seat to a seat shop and he did exactly like Brakes2late is advising. It really is a waste because the seat is right on the frame. You can take the seat off and straddle your bike to see if it really would make a difference to cut the extra padding. just get used to your ride. K | ||

Yeah, I think the only other option would be dropping the forks (need handle bar risers) and use a shorter shock off an XBsomething. I think I saw another thread about that. I'm 6' tall so doing the seat was enough for me but still not great. I also keep the suspension a little softer so she squats more. Don't mind the handling affects since they are minimal at anything but Ricky Racer speeds. | ||

Might sound silly but makes a big difference for me, I bought HD riding boots with a 1" thick sole. I am 6' with a 31" inseam. I am much more comfortable at a stop light with the higher/stiffer sole boots. | ||

Well I adjusted the suspension to my wight 160lb (I'm 5'11" 1/2 31" inseam ) which gave it some sag now which helped a bit. It is not that I am not used to a tall bike, I have a KLR but the stock seat is soft so you sink down into it and narrow so I can flat foot both feet. I haven't had any time to take it for a real ride. (work you know). A friend has a lower seat he will let me try to see if I like it. | ||

This site has some good advise on how to modify a seat yourself. http://diymotorcycleseat.com/ I didn't lower mine but I did get a really comfortable seat out of it. |
