No hijack taken - this subject blows anyway The people who were affected have a sense of humor about it. When I was visiting my friend he said that if I needed to use the bathroom the door was open - all that was left of his house was the center wall and the toilet. I would guess that a large percentage of the people that live in these areas were probably born here and didn't migrate, well except for CA & FL. |

The most heartening thing about this terrible event is that huge outpouring of help, money, etc. I'm watching the 6:00 news as I'm writing this and people are walking up to the anchor who is standing outside, giving him money to help with the tornado relief, just ordinary folks who want to help. The high school I teach at rised over $10,000.00 today just by asking and we have over 100 kids who will be heading up to Parkersburg, Friday to help with the clean-up. We had another 50 or so who wanted to help but we could only get 2 buses for the effort. We were not effected at all in the main part of Waterloo, just a little rain and an unreal lightening show. Believe me I'm very thankful!! |

The TV station raised over $300,000.00 yesterday for the relief effort! In Iowa, when disaster strikes, there is usually no looting, stealing, killing and standing around doing nothing to help yourself or others. When officials finally let outside help into town they will be flooded with help. The National Guard is there helping sift thru rubble, not much threat of them having to defend anyone so they are working. Good job on the school kids helping out Ralph! Be a great lesson for them. |

In Iowa, when disaster strikes, there is usually no looting, stealing, killing and standing around doing nothing to help yourself or others. i've always kind of thought the same thing Dave. the person to get seen doing anything like that around these areas would like likely be shot and buried in the rubble. and somehow no one would have seen anything... |

"i've always kind of thought the same thing Dave. the person to get seen doing anything like that around these areas would like likely be shot and buried in the rubble." it would be different here, they wouldn't take the time to bury them! |

Well now it looks like you're flooded. Hope that doesn't affect any of you all. |
