The more I think about it, the more I like Mike's idea of separate switches for Hi-Lo.
The timer-relay is just extra stuff and wiring I don't have room for.
Running off the Acc'y ckt has big potential drawbacks.
Simply plugging in to the existing line will shorten the life of the lights.
Now to figure out a good spot and source some switches.

I bought an metc kit off Ebay and have had no trouble with mine. I give the bulbs a sec to warm up, then start the bike. Took about 1 hour to put in, plug and play easy. looks great, Are bright enough I dont use my high beams, so I put mtec yellow bulbs in the highs and work good on those early morning rides. |

Hey guys I made a small dash right above the tach with a piece of sheet metal,
if you look at my pictures that were posted along time ago you will see the shift light above the tach,
I removed the tack and bolted the sheet metal to the frame and then put the tach back on,
I am not done with my bike yet but should be wrapping it up a few weeks and then will post the pictures,
I just purchased a headphone amp with base, treble, balance, and volume and is made for bikes by MH instruments so I might be changing things around to mount the unit.
Rick when you let the bulbs warm up and then start the bike I think it shuts off the lighs while starting,
I would like to install a switch to shut off all the lights for running in stealth mode,
also use the ground wires to do this that way no shorts.

Yes sir, It does shut the bulbs off while it starts. I can tell as the bulbs warm the color and brightness change. but after the start they dont appear to have any change. I know there are some cars that do the same thing. I'm not sure if they have delays built in.
I'd really like to see your amp, I've been wanting to do this but was wondering on a mounting place. Rick |

Burton-
Relying on the Accesory plug to NOT be on until the motor starts may be rough on your lights.
Loretta's Accy port is live most of the time when I turn on the ignition.
My LED voltmeter is plugged into it and usually comes on right away.
Run off a time-delay relay or a switch.
Getting closer to actually fitting mine.

On the high beams I've installed H11 bulbs in place of the H8s. They were $15 each from a local auto parts store. You have to trim a small piece of the largest metal tab for them to install but it upgrades from 35w to 55w per bulb. They're packaged Sylvania and the bulb is marked OSRAM just like the factory bulbs. So if you want replacement bulbs the cheap ones at your local parts store are likely the same as the OEM. Don't need to spend twice as much to get them from BMC.
Haven't had a chance to try them yet. I'll update when I do as to weather it's a noticeable difference.
PS: Anyone want to buy some slightly used H8 bulbs?  |

Those MTEC yellows I had where H11 and they were really good...I just put the new cosmos blue H11's in to better match the xenons and there are very nice...hiper white would be alot more functional but I dont over drive my lights at night...too much wildlife out here. |

Just got back from my night ride. The 55w highs definitely help. I've got the reach I want for the turns now and coverage I want for the lows. HID highs might be neat but I don't think they're quite worth the expense and weight considering how much they'd get used.
I went from about a 20% loss of exit speed on my favorite twisty section to only about a 7% loss. Since the turn crests I'm limited in view anyway and the only area where I can see out ahead far is the exit and now the coverage is good enough that I can see as far ahead as I normally look through the turn.
I'd say it's money well spent. Total so far for headlight upgrades: $170. I can imagine much less useful things to spend that on. |
