Does anyone have the correct irridium plug number for the 08's??? Amsoil just did a dyno test - their oil gave a bump in power. Add the irridium and you get another bump. Substantial bumps at that. Thanks. |

NGK Iridiums: DCPR9EIX Probably moot but the '08 has a slightly different plug than the previous model years. The stock plug for the '08 is 10R12X vs. 10R12A for the earlier years. As far as I know, the DCPR9EIX is an equivalent for the 10R12A. I don't know if it's just a temperature difference but I've looked and can't find an Iridium part number as a cross reference to the 10R12X (2008). Tipsy |

I just pulled 10R12X plugs from my '06 Uly. Just bought the bike new 2 months ago. The '06 and '07 Uly manual lists 10R12A as the stock plug. If I had to guess, I'd think that since your bike had been in stock for quite some time prior to being sold, the dealership probably changed the plugs when they prepped it for delivery. For whatever reason, they installed the '08 spec'd plug. When I had my 1000 miles service done, I looked at the invoice prior to leaving the parking lot. I didn't even know they were going to change the plugs but on the invoice was 10R12A x 2. I just happen to be somewhat particular (okay, anal) and went back in to point out the discrepancy. The service manager acknowledged that the '08 calls for the 10R12X and changed them out. Tipsy |

It'd be interesting to see what the difference is the the 10R12A and 10R12X plugs. Perhaps Buell changed to an iridium plug from the factory? |

The 10R12X plug is the same heat range and uses the same gap, it just has a different insulator shape for increased fouling resistance. It is backwards compatible to previous year models. Buell had this plug developed largely in response to issues they had with their demo fleet where bikes were being started but never fully warmed up repeatedly and had fouling issues as a result. Me personally, I've NEVER fouled a plug in a Buell. It is NOT an iridium electrode plug. The NGK plugs that we sell, American Sport Bike part numbers 5887 for Iridium and 5889 for standard, are still the correct NGK plugs for the 08 models. As far as cross references go, a quick check shows that NGK STILL thinks that the proper heat range is an 8 for thunderstorm and XB engines. We believe that the heat range 9 is a better match for the Tstorm and XB engine, based on the change that Buell made in 2000 from the 6R12 to the 10R12. |

Thanks Al... I appreciate the research. I just put the Iridium plugs in my 08 Uly yesterday, and I am very pleased with the performance. Seems smoother and more responsive, it may just be my mind playing tricks; but so far I am very pleased |
