So next year, you'll be designing/installing a true ram air intake on the S2 and going for 200 mph on gas? The ram air velocity calculation above is very conservative in that it only accounts for stagnation pressure neglecting local intake geometry effects and optimized ducting design. I think the eRAM folks say their device provides the same boost (1 psi) as a modern ram air intake at somewhere around 160 mph. I've also heard and can accept that the RWHP gains provided by the ram air intakes on UJM crotchrockets at 160 mph are around 10%. That would correspond roughly to 1.4 psi of equivalent boost, so at 200 mph you would have roughly the equivalent of 2.2 psi of boost. That would yield about a 15% power gain. |

A big Aveox brushless motor is gonna suck the electrical system right off the frame. Around 100 amps and 1500Ma in a hi performance R/C aircraft. Would it push enough air to make a difference? I dunno. I'll go ask some questions at the flying field. For an LSR attempt this might be practical. You could mount your 30-40 nicads in a box mounted like an oil cooler. Wouldn't be cheap, The motor is around $250 on sale, the speed controller another $250, the batteries at $2 per cell, ouch. |
